I been registered since January of 2002. Doesn't that have more weight than the number of posts? I actually really could care less, but thought this would be a good first post in the lounge :) :) :)

Regards Phrozen 11-20-2002, 07:05 PM Well, if you registered this year then, yes, you're definatlely a n00b. Jtru 11-20-2002, 07:14 PM What isolsdotnet said is true. Ignore the number of posts. Those who contribute something and add quality to the forum and not just smiley faces, aren't noobies in my book. flitcher 11-20-2002, 07:19 PM I think your a newbie if you do not read threads on a normal basis. Even though your title says you are one, it wouldn't necessarily mean you are if you stay in the "loop" of the board. DanielP 11-20-2002, 07:20 PM Well I guess since I registered in 2000 that makes you a noob to me Prhozen :stickout: interactive 11-20-2002, 07:20 PM lol ::wonders if he's a n00b::.... I've been here like 3 months (Registered started surfing back in may I believe?). I'm taking therapy classes to help me "get less adicted to this place". But seriously, I would look at how long a user's been registered over how many posts. Just my worthless $0.02 though. Rockerhard 11-20-2002, 07:56 PM LOL, thanks all. You are right. Number of posts mean diddly squat. I was just curious on your thoughts on this. Good luck with the therapy classes man. They didn't work for me, but you will have better luck :D Tazzman 11-20-2002, 07:58 PM Maybe add an experience hack or something: experience = number of posts * days/months of membership interactive 11-20-2002, 08:01 PM Originally posted by Rockerhard LOL, thanks all. Acronym BOY 11-20-2002, 08:20 PM Originally posted by Tazzman Maybe add an experience hack or something: experience = number of posts * days/months of membership Or how about an EXP system like phpBB has (mod) that calcualtes for each user, on a post by post basis, that includes length of post, length of registration, frequency of posts, and number of replies to one thread. Or if you want a short formula: experience = (length of post)(number of posts/(errors * 0.01)) progex 11-20-2002, 08:29 PM Unfortunately, many people constitute a person's reputation through the number of posts he/she has. Many of the 1000+ post counts acquired by the dedicated members who browse the boards post useless replies. :stickout: Acronym BOY 11-20-2002, 09:50 PM Originally posted by progex Unfortunately, many people constitute a person's reputation through the number of posts he/she has. All other things equal, a peson with 5 posts, but 100 words long will have more experience than a person with 50 posts, but only things like "ha ha" or "lol". Not to mention words like that will not count towards ones word count. And posts under 3 words will not count as a post at all, neither will just images or smilies. akashik 11-20-2002, 10:26 PM Originally posted by progex Unfortunately, many people constitute a person's reputation through the number of posts he/she has. That actually used to have a certain amount of truth to it a long time ago. The highest post counts all belonged to dedicated, helpful individuals - many of whom are long gone now. You could count on one hand the people with more than 1000 posts (actually there was only 3 or 4). Rambling threads of little more than smileys or one word answers didn't exist, and you could almost read the full forum before seeing new replies. This forum is better in many ways with the larger mebership, but as with all things it's a little more 'diluted' than it used to be. Greg Moore skelley1 11-20-2002, 10:44 PM it would be nice if there were some kind of rating system that took into consideration the number of helpful posts, question posts, flames, off-topic posts, etc. Acronym BOY 11-20-2002, 11:30 PM Originally posted by skelley1 it would be nice if there were some kind of rating system that took into consideration the number of helpful posts, question posts, flames, off-topic posts, etc. paging slashdot, paging slashdot, please report to WHT Lounge Acroplex 11-21-2002, 01:56 AM Originally posted by Acronym BOY paging slashdot, paging slashdot, please report to WHT Lounge +5 to your karma :D mod parent up! A smilie isn't a good contribution...? ;) Gary anon-e-mouse 11-21-2002, 08:51 AM I must admit I get a bit peed off when I get an email notification and all I see is  or huh? or lol or  or similar Probably no big deal to you hyperposters because you probably did it anyway. It will be nice when the time comes to disable post counts in this particular forum  Reptilian Feline 11-21-2002, 09:27 AM I guess it all depends... I have my e-mail notifications deleted as they arrive, so I check my profile to see if there are any anwers. At least the lol answers don't clogg up my inbox :) It's always hard to find a good system of "is this a good and helpful member". anon-e-mouse 11-21-2002, 09:31 AM I don't post in too many threads, so it is an annoyance to get a notification and all it is a lol or whatever :( Reptilian Feline 11-21-2002, 09:49 AM That is understandable. Do WHT send a new e-mail for every answer in the thread as well? anon-e-mouse 11-21-2002, 09:54 AM No only one since your last visit, there could be 100 posts after the poster after you, but you will only get the one (thank heaven :erm: ) Reptilian Feline 11-21-2002, 10:09 AM Well, that's a good thing. Imagine all those e-mails filling your inbox with smilies ATST 11-21-2002, 10:35 AM I read these forums inbetween reading my emails so I don't use "posted to thread" email notication. That would be like spamming myself. and now just for anon-e-mouse a big LOL :D dapproid 11-21-2002, 02:42 PM I prefer big BB's, then you don't have to wait three hours for a reply. Acronym BOY 11-21-2002, 07:18 PM I prefer BB's with knowledgeable people able to help me out with a detailed response. If I need a quick fix I head to IRC. I also prefer the discussion format a BB offers over IRC so for longer things, a BB is what I prefer. MikeM 11-21-2002, 07:30 PM I originally signed up in July 2000 under a different name.. I had 70 posts. After a discussion about anonymity I felt it better to practice what i preach and changed my name. The whole point of this is... I have in total between 2 usernames 350 posts (give or take a few). I have been here almost 2 1/2 years. The majority of the large post counts on this board have shown up over the last 6 months. I dont think Post #'s count for much. Its what is contributed. ( the first username was exbodyguard) Reptilian Feline 11-22-2002, 03:33 AM With the new warninglevels as a way to see if someone is breaking the rules, maybe we could have an "expert"-level or something as well. Helpful posts increase the expert level, and if warninglevels go up, the expert level goes down. We ARE allowed to have fun too, so we shouldn't get minuspoints for posting things like :) :D :bawling: as the only answer to a post. mind21_98 11-22-2002, 11:12 AM Originally posted by Reptilian Feline We ARE allowed to have fun too, so we shouldn't get minuspoints for posting things like :) :D :bawling: as the only answer to a post.
