HostCentric is now slamming our customers by email. Warn Your Clients! ... here's a snippet, with only vague implications of changing registrars.

............
Your domain name registration is due for renewal.

We strongly recommend that if you are interested in this domain name for a long term, that you considered renewing it for a 5 or 10 year period. Not only will this save you money on your renewal, it will also prevent any complications that can occur at renewal times, due to a changed e-mail address or changes in your contact information.

NOTE: SEE PST RETRACTION BELOW ..

Is their mailing deceptive?

Of course it is ... the proof?

One of my clients received a mailing, and almost paid them to unknowingly change registrars.

The trick they use (as does ENOM, etc.) is the following phrase or similar one:

"You must renew your name to retain exclusive rights to it on the Web" (from register.com mailing)

Sure, it's not outright slamming because they do talk about saving money by switching to them, unlike NSI (Verisign), who got a court order to stop mailing Bulkregister customers, but still deceptive enough to confuse consumers.

Could you file a lawsuit against them?

I'm guessing this is the new "scam fad".

Hostcentric's domain registration division is AllDomains.com
They were pioneers in many things so it's sad to see them participate in the alleged slamming.

Sure, but it might not stick.

Bulkregister recently told me they couldn't even do a register lock to protect customers if the solicitation says somewhere on it that it's a transfer.

When I was a Web2010 customer, they originally had "CORE-45" as their registrar, which caused all sorts of problems with transfers to other registrars when CORE-45 was disbanded.

Then they started the whole AllDomains thing, and when they registered names for me, they left off ALL contact information. I couldn't transfer them becuase they were just domain names with no owners, except in Web2010's records.

Fortuneately, after a few calls, they took the time to fix everything. That's all you can ask I suppose. Or at least comparing some incompetence to a lack of response altogether (like my last host), I'd rather take more mistakes that are fixed.

I talked with Hostcentric yesterday and they apologized for hte mistake.

They just had me still in their system, simple as that.

The other problems I had (domain names no longer having contacts records) were apparently an AllDomains error when records were migrated.

And I was told ...

AllDomains is not a part of Hostcentric or vie versa.

Hmmm very bizarre....The company I was working for had all sorts of dealing with Web2010 and Hostcentric. They did have some slow downs in their responses, but overall we had no problems.
