If you are, please reply. I have searched the forum and read every post. I just want an "updated" opinion, hosts change from day to day ;).

I am thinking about going with one of their reseller packages, specifically the RSdot4 package.

They have good rates, and a 30 day money back guarantee.

I've been with them since september....I'm on the Dot2 Package..

I would still say they are a great host....their support is great (especially if you use MSN. They are on quite a bit and it helps having real time help, but their ticket system is good too).

I've had the server be a little slow a few times, but only for a little time, so no big problem.

I highly recommend them :)

I talked to Tony from dot5hosting on AIM for quite a while, asking many questions. He was a great help...they seem to be a good host.

I found out some interesting things that I might as well just post here...

Dot5Hosting is based in UK, the servers are in US.

They have two members of staff in UK and two in US [there are 4 people on the support/tech team..]

They like to keep the number of sites on each server down, which is a good thing.

I also asked for server loads from two of their servers, and they were very low, the highest out of the two was 0.25.

The packages are great too, for the price you pay, you definitely get a lot.

My experience with Dot5hosting.com was not so good...

I signed up at 5:15 AM one morning, and wanted my account set up as fast as possible. It states on their website that your acct can take up to 12 hrs to set up, but is usually done within a few minutes. I was counting on the later.

Approx 2 hours later, I emailed dot5hosting.com about my acct setup. No reply. An hour later, I phoned them, and got an answering machine. I left my phone number to be called back. I was never called back. Emailed them, again. No reply.

Over 6 hours had passed, and I requested a chargeback. About 8 hours later, I received a not-so-nice letter from dot5hosting.com where they told me that they set up accts only a few times a day because Apache has to be shut down EACH time, according to them.

I was not aware of that since I've always had immmediate setup from a C Panel host, and this was my first time to go with an Ensim host... and I still don't know if that is true about Apache having to be shut down for each acct that is set up. If that IS true, then why do they state that accts are USUALLY set up within a few minutes?

IMHO, they should remove that "accounts are usually set up within a few minutes" phrase from their website, if they want to be honest and alleviate problems... because THAT was the phrase that caused the problem.

I admit that due to my ignorance about acct setups with Ensim, that maybe I didn't give them a fair shot. However, I still think their support was lacking.

I was with them for a little over a week. I left because of the problems they we're having. The support and packages are great, I guess I just came at a bad time. I'm probably going to put up another site with them.. just waiting for things to go back to normal.

Chrisb, Apache is restarted every time you create an account, no matter what control panel you're using.

Say what you will, but the key word in "usually done within a few minutes" is usually, which does allow for exceptions. I don't know if it's fully reasonable to expect that to apply when you sign up at 5am.

I agree with lightnin, they do state the word "usually" and if it was 5am, there can't exactly be a lot of people around.

Dajo77: Please could you tell me more about the problems they were having?

6 hours it too long to get an account setup.. thats just crazy if you wanted somone that offered automatic account creation you should have picked a company that offered it.

Well, maybe I'm wrong, but I seriously doubt if they USUALLY set up accts within a few minutes. :)

Anyhow, I could live with that, but not with more than 6 hours to set up an acct. That seems ridiculous to me. It was the quickest chargeback I'd ever done, and one of the few, but their lack of response within an 8 hour period is the reason that I did it.

Besides email and phone, I even contacted their emergency pager, and no response until about 7-8 hours later. If they had only responded saying something like "we will have your acct set up as soon as possible" or sent me an email explaining why, this would not have happened.

5:15 AM, unreasonable? Last time I checked, hosting was a 24/7/365 business.

That it is. However that doesn't mean that all aspects of it are 24/7. Support is 24/7/365, not neccessarily account creation.

I don't know what other companies do, but our night time people don't setup accounts. Anything that comes in after midnight or so waits until morning.

Some sites have had downtime the past week or so. Hasn't affected mine, which has been up 100% since I signed up a couple weeks ago. No slowdowns either, and support has been good.

Stats are being upgraded to Urchin soon, or so we're told. Seems they're making improvements, but I'm happy with what they currently offer so anything else is icing on the cake.

That's an "updated" opinion, but I've by no means been with them long enough to give a complete recommendation.

yeah... there was a week not so long ago, where they seemed to have big problems with keeping some sites up and running.. mine included...

problems all seem solved now and everything is happy & shinny again!

The only thing that works on Dot5 is their support (which means that they respond fast and support is very friendly. But in most cases they can't solve anything, because they don't have any control over 'their' servers).

Also, uptime and server hardware is very poor, so I don't recommend them, specially if you are reseller or have important web site.

I know several people that left them because of all this and I am too currently looking for another host

ps.
I am blaming you, guys from WHT, because I've signed up with dot5 :) So many nice stuff about dot5 here, and nobody told the truth.
