View Full Version : i thought there were rules in the requests forum?

i thought providers had to offer what you asked for, not what they wanted to sell you? ive posted requests before and stated areas for flexibility because before i didnt have a firm idea, this time i posted very specifically the features i wanted only to have three successive offers from people obviously far to retarded to actually read the long words.
can the mods please crack down on the spamming going on, its a complete waste of time. if some one states they want a fast p3 or p4 server with multihomed bandwidth and they want it managed, they do not want offers for semi managed servers, celery servers nor singlehomed bandwidth.
at least it ruled out three companies i wont be dealing with again.

I think the mods also expect us to use that "Report this post to a moderator" .

gee do they:) i thought it was just pretty. thats not my point. its the flagrant abuse of the forum by certain suppliers who dont have the respect to actually read a request before they reply to it. its something that got way out of hand here a while back, then the rules came in and it got better, not it seems to be heading off again.

The rules where enforced in that forum when they were introduced for a short while only :(

thats rediculous, chicken is most welcome or any other mod to view my pm's and check the offer of a semi managed server, the other two requests are posts.

the rules were there for a good reason. to keep wht a valuable resource, not for moronic sales reps to annoy the hell outta people.

use the self police method if you feel you need to, but americand is right...the link is in every post. You should use it.

theres no link on pm's and who said i didnt use it :) doesnt preclude me from discussing the current trend.

Discussion...Well it sounds more like a rant. But if you want to discuss it....sure.

I am convinced people just see it as an opportunity to openly plug their wares. They actually have no intention of offering the service to you...they just want a "semi looking ligit ish" way of getting their name out. As for the Morron who PMed you...well he is just a Morron. ;)

What do you think about that then.

No matter what forum, no matter what it is people want to advertise, there will always be MANY who don't read the rules or if they do they just don't care.

The quickest way to get rid of them is use the report post link, instead of posting about it here :stickout:

It is annoying the way offers don't match the request, and the 30% rule isn't always enforced.

However, SAY how flexible you are - would you mind an athlon instead of a pentium that much?

Hopefully understandably, the advertising forums are not monitored as closely as the other main forums. We provide them, but any post that doesn't match will be removed promptly if reported. If no one has a problem with it, then we more or less let requesters determine what offers they'd like to take advantage of.

Obviously the Requests Forum works better when people MATCH the request (bit of common sense there really), however I will also mention that I started a thread about this a couple of days ago (before I took a couple days off). I haven't checked it yet.

ok it was half rant, basically a few companies like verio, rackeasy and snc cant be bothered to read or havent got staff capable of reading.
The reason i posted wasnt entirely due to those three pathetic companies, more that as a part of my looking for a server i did a quick search to see what others had been offered and its the same scenarion repeated. People saying i want X and Y for Z and halfwits saying i dont care what you want , i sell these so im going to whore myself about a bit and hope you buy it. it may have been half rant but i was trying to draw attention again to the rapidly increasing amount of junk offers. sorry if i offened you.

No offense taken at all. It has been an issue lately, mostly with other hosts who seem more annoyed than the people requesting hosting. That isn't to say they don't have a valid point, just that the forum isn't errrrrr, for posting offers (we have those forums), it is for making requests.

The basic problem is that this is a discussion forum. the script isn't really set up for participants to enter in an exact list and have exact replies in a format that is easy for us to watch closely.

As I said, common sense says that if a person is requesting something, you match their request. if you can't, you don't post a non-matching offer (as the person isn't likely to sign up for something they didn't request). I suppose common sense is in short supply though...

do away with the advertising area completely, that will solve all the problems, then we can get back to whats important, discussing web hosting, not advertising it

Gary, let's take a step backward in time. Had the enom sale been legitimate would you still feel this way?

I'd also like to add this:

Gary, why dont you start by removing your commercial link in your 'www'?

This is just my opinion. But as others have said the ad forums drive WHT. Theres tons of auctions that go on here and this is the second out of all the ones I've seen that has gone bad. If Gary had used some common sense, like call the person this would have been avoided. He lost $60 so he's gone crying to Chicken.

This contradicts your thoughts in your previous post:

then we can get back to whats important, discussing web hosting, not advertising it

Having a commercial link in your 'www' is advertising, so therefore, by your standards it should be removed.

That's the answer I was looking for....;)

I don't want this to sound mean in any way, but you, along with every other consumer on WHT should use common sense when buying things here. Had you done a little research (the ******/timmy implication was started a few weeks ago, and you should have verified the sale before sending payment), you might not be in the situation you are in.

Get a life kido is that the best you could come up with? Its not that I don't like honest discussion I don't like bickering. Like I'm doing right now. No offence mate.

I think the issue is that you were temporarily relieved of $65 (I wasn't aware that you got it back either), and because of this 7-ish day ordeal, your solution is to, "do away with the advertising area completely." People disagree with that, and that's their opinion. Yours has been noted and I'm sure Robert (not me) will consider it, and the other suggestions.
