Opera , Netscape or IE? flitcher 11-20-2002, 11:16 AM Define best. sasha 11-20-2002, 11:20 AM mozilla It is standard complient, customizable, feature ritch browser. Almost forgot, it works with windows, mac and linux UH-Matt 11-20-2002, 11:21 AM for winblows i would say ie nowadays, although i used to be a netscape fan about 5 years ago Darth 11-20-2002, 11:23 AM IE... filburt1 11-20-2002, 11:25 AM IE6 supports a lot of cool Javascript and DHTML; Mozilla for other platforms and OS X. Jim_UK 11-20-2002, 11:27 AM I was a user of IE for years but have not even opened it since finding the latest Netscape which was soon replaced by Mozilla <-- totally reccommended :) jolly 11-20-2002, 11:30 AM IE takes lots of system resources..... UH-Matt 11-20-2002, 11:30 AM If i install Mozilla is it easy to uninstall and resume with IE if i dont like it.... To be honest i have never even seen Mozilla in action let alone tried it. Jim_UK 11-20-2002, 12:06 PM Originally posted by UH-Matt If i install Mozilla is it easy to uninstall and resume with IE if i dont like it.... It doesn't touch your IE install so you can have both installed and in use if you want. I've not tried uninstalling Mozilla but I don't think there will be a problem with this. To be honest i have never even seen Mozilla in action let alone tried it. Exactly the same situation as me and I was extremely surprised and impressed when I finally gave it a try. Have fun :) Andrew 11-20-2002, 12:19 PM You can even get a mozilla skin that makes it look exactly like IE. If you're homesick that is. :) tapster 11-20-2002, 12:30 PM yep mozilla all the way. I love the tabbed browsing - you can have many sites on tabs so you dont need 20 instances of the browser open :) I only use IE for compatibility testing now :flamethr: IE6 :smash: Dogma 11-20-2002, 02:49 PM Whatever works best for you. I find the Netscape 6+/Mozilla browsers to be the "best" for myself, but that's only because I like products that follow standards and don't illegally create a monopoly... :D Jtru 11-20-2002, 03:57 PM For me, it's a combination of Mozilla and IE. Really though, it comes down to what you prefer using, as stated above. Superior-IS 11-20-2002, 04:01 PM I'm running Phoenix 0.4 and I must say it is pretty sweet. It has all the nice features of Mozilla, but it is a stripped version of Mozilla. So you don't have the composer, irc client etc -- only the browser. This makes it light and thus a fast browser. I really recommend it to give it a whirl. Phoenix page: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/phoenix/phoenix-release-notes.html derek.bodner 11-20-2002, 06:06 PM Like IE, but like the latest mozilla more. For the most part use mozilla now. Acronym BOY 11-20-2002, 06:18 PM I use either IE 6 of Phoenix. Mozilla and Netscape are too slow for me, both in app load times and page load times. manderso 11-20-2002, 11:44 PM IE6, but Opera comes close michaeln 11-20-2002, 11:55 PM Mozilla all of the way. On my computer at least I find it to be faster, it looks better, displays the pages the same, and I like the email part much better than Outlook or Outlook Express. WoodShedd 11-21-2002, 12:05 AM IE 6 used to be my favourite, but it got messed up somehow so I gave Mozilla a try. I fixed IE, but never bothered using it again. Mozilla is good seg fault 11-21-2002, 12:45 AM GALEON! net-trend 11-21-2002, 01:28 AM NS7/Mozilla only. I will never trust IE with credit card/confidential details, knowing the amount of bugs [that get installed and are hidden] that send god knows what to companies like gator..etc. And NS7/Mozilla has the best ever made pop-up blocker...tabbed browsing....and quick page rendering times....;) derek.bodner 11-21-2002, 02:06 AM The only thing i dislike about tabbed browsing is not being able to alt-tab between tabs like you can between browsers. alt-tabbing's just something i've become so accustomed to over the year. F.N 11-21-2002, 02:17 AM I have IE6, Mozilla 1.1, NS7 and the new Opera 7 installed on the system. The browser I use (by choice) is IE, works 100% on all sites I visit, can not say the same for the other 3! Not because buggy browsers (though there are some), but because of shonky codings, and IE is the best all rounder for displaying even the crapiest coded page. Yes, it's great to have standard compliant browsers, but these are not too useful if 80% (educated guess) of sites are coded in a non-standard way. Time will change this. Selpaw 11-21-2002, 03:37 AM Mozilla all the way :) (Running it on Windows 2000). Lonny 11-21-2002, 04:27 AM Well here is my opinion - I need a browser I can forget about so I could actually focus on the web pages - I'm using Internet Explorer and so far everything has been working great for me - no special problems - I have been using it for so long that I can;t imagine using anything else... Same way I like using textpad instead of notepad or microsoft office instead of custom application - I've been using it for so long that it's hard to move to something else,, debug 11-21-2002, 07:24 AM mozilla and IE6 sasha 11-21-2002, 08:38 AM Originally posted by dbodner The only thing i dislike about tabbed browsing is not being able to alt-tab between tabs like you can between browsers. alt-tabbing's just something i've become so accustomed to over the year. Heh, the same thing was bugging me a lot. Eventualy I got used to CTRL PageUp and PageDown AceWeb 11-21-2002, 11:49 AM IE 6.0 Mozzila 1.0 Netscape 7 . . . . . . . . . . . Opera (last place - I do not like it because it does not follow the standards). net-trend 11-21-2002, 11:55 AM Originally posted by AceWeb Opera (last place - I do not like it because it does not follow the standards). In that case IE should come in the last place. AceWeb 11-21-2002, 11:57 AM Originally posted by net-trend In that case IE should come in the last place. IE follows all the the set standards - Opera does not. Dogma 11-21-2002, 08:49 PM Originally posted by AceWeb IE follows all the the set standards - Opera does not. Have you tried the new Opera 7 (it's in beta right now). With 6 and previous, Opera had poor DOM support (among other things) but have you ever seen the W3C and the IE box model side by side? It's scary... Vex 11-21-2002, 09:04 PM Opera is very nice... but I'm so used to IE that I have a habit of opening IE instead  Rockerhard 11-21-2002, 09:34 PM IE with Crazy Browser (http://www.crazybrowser.com) plugin installed. The Dude 11-21-2002, 10:18 PM I think IE is the best browser... I have IE6 installed, with a custom version over it...... (I have an automatic pop up stopper,my browser opens all new windows in the taskbar,so if i dont wanna look at them,i just close it.....Good not to have it pop up in my face (uugghh)) My vote is for IE6 The Dude :) AceWeb 11-21-2002, 10:47 PM Originally posted by Dogma Have you tried the new Opera 7 (it's in beta right now). I will download a fresh copy today and see if it got any better. :) |
