Hi guys, i have recently bought a new dedicated server with United Colo - the $99 special, just to get me started.

There are a few (maybe newbish) questions I have, and wondered whether you guys can give us some answers

1. All I have is the bare bones server with Linux installed. Now when I tryed to ftp some stuff up onto my server, I could only connect to FTP servers by IP address, not by domain name. Is this beause I have to set up some DNS stuff?

2. Cant Ping Server -- I can SSH into the server fine, but can not ping the server or tracert to it. Suppose this is due to a firewall. Now how do I turn this off? Is it UnitedColo network side? Or something to do with Linux.

firewall is on unitedcolo's side. don't know if you can do anything about it - you'll need to call/e-mail them and ask.
