Hi, everyone , I´m not sure if this topic goes in this forum of WHT, but is related to payment methods of design work, I just want to ask you what method you prefer? I know, I know, you´ll say: "Paypal", have you ever used Moneybookers, epassporte, MoneyGram, etc..with your clients? Any thoughts?

Diana.

I am living in Colombia now, Paypal no work, the prefer methods are Western Union, Moneybookeres and Alertpay, some companies offers 2CO because they can get Paypal payments with this option, but is very cost for Colombia country

I've used WorldPay and Google Checkout out before, but as you said.. I use PayPal.

WorldPay was quite good, though I didn't like their interface and I found Google Checkout wasn't as good as either.

Google Checkout or Worldpay would be other alternative option to consider.

Hoopay was interesting, but it has become problematic to be able to convert the virtual money to physical money, since now it is possible only to do by means of "exchangers service" ( here the official exchangers http://www.hoopay.com/faq.seam?farea=15&qes=132 )

World Pay is a good service, I have used it on numerous occasions without any problems.

Since Paypal is not available in my country (to receive money) I´ve open an account in Moneybookers, is like paypal, but it looks that not everyone use it so I¨m trying with Alertpay :) thanks everyone for your comments, very interesting.

ePassporte works well - *DO NOT* use Google Checkout as they give the seller zero opportunity to dispute any type of chargeback.

hai!
According to my experience just give preference to paypal, then google checkout, then alertpay.

I use MoneyBookers (which will also let you to pay via bank account directly) since I am not able to withdrawn money with PayPal in my country.
For sums over EUR 100, I also offer WesternUnion as payment option.

So, if you are a costumer/client, do you prefer to work with someone who use Paypal? What about Alertpay or Moneybookers? :)

I use Paypal as that is what most people I buy from prefer. This is probably because Moneybookers and others requires so many different id verification (via regular mail...).

How do you actually use this Plimus? Do you use it with WHMCS or another method?

I don't know what is the WHMCS method. Plimus is used just like PayPal. You set up products in your account and get their links and associate them with the products on your website.
You don't even need a shopping cart, as Plimus will provide that feature.

Paypal, 2CO and Google Checkout.

If they can't pay with any of those you can do a money transfer of cheque if they are local.

I've heard bad things about Western Union. There are flaws in the process that enable scamming more easily.

Western Union charges too much for sent money :/ is fast but expensive. What do you think about Moneybookers, is like Paypal.

Paypal works great, unless you reside in another country that does not support it. Moneybooker is another option for more world wide individuals.

Diane: Is there a possibility that your bank in Managua (?) can help you open a bank account in the USA (probably in Miami or Houston), so that you could receive PayPal payments there? There is a lot of paperwork required, even for U.S. Citizens who live abroad, to open a bank account in the USA. Or, possibly your bank has a branch in Puerto Rico or Panama or another country where you could work with PayPal? Or, perhaps your bank has a correspondent relationship with a bank in the USA. My belief is that just about everyone who has made purchases on the web has at least heard of PayPal, if not used them. I have also paid for things via 2CO. I have heard of ePassporte (in fact I opened an account with them, a few months ago) but have no experience using ePassporte. PayPal will give the buyer more of a feeling of confidence, IMHO, if you can arrange a way that is satisfactory for you and for PayPal. Feliz 2010!

Moneybookers is very nice and safe to use.

Many people will recommend PayPal but to be honest, if your account gets limited they basically freeze your account and play the judge and jury, and decide what to do with your money.

My account was frozen because someone else with a similar name committed fraud and my account has been suspended and I keep getting ridiculous auto response template replies from PayPal when I try to dispute it!

That's why I wouldn't recommend them :)

Hi, Lanny, My bank has a correspondent with a bank in USA, hmm I think I have to ask them about that, I never heard about that, but it looks like a good solution. Thank you and Happy new year! Feliz Año 2010

You are most welcome. The best situation would be if your bank account in Managua(?) is able to receive transfers directly from people in the USA. I am not speaking of "Wire Transfers", which are expensive, but simply an electronic transfer, from a bank account in the USA, to a bank account in Colombia. At least one of the banks here in Colombia has that available. People in the USA can transfer $ directly into bank accounts of people in at least one Colombian bank. PayPal would probably require you to have a Mailing Address in the USA, but if you can open a bank account in the USA (very difficult), you could probably use Diane Hernandez c/o the banks mailing address, as your mailing address.

While we have tried other providers for numerous clients PayPal continues to be the one must users trust so they are still the choice

There are many alternatives out there and there are some you should watch out for. There is a lot of fraud in checks, money orders, and wire transfers. I would do a few google searches to find out more for your own personal need.

Paypal is honestly the best choice for web services and there are ways you can void fees through Personal payments if your client is a verified member. I would suggest to read up on PayPal's policies for Personal Payments.

Google Checkout is a decent alternative however not so great in my opinion as it lacks a lot of the features that PayPal has. For instance, a debit card.

Escrow is good for large payments, at least for me. I usually tell my clients to use Escrow for projects with budget over 1,000. You can use it for smaller sums however it is up to the client to pay their high fees.

Hope that helps

Paypal or cheque.

nhance

Direct bank transfer or Paypal seems to work the best for me. I do accept cheques as payment however this slows down project lead time as I wait for the cheque to clear before starting work on most occasions.

Cold hard cash also does the trick :)

This is true. But perhaps not for distance transactions.

I would like nothing better than to accept cash!

nhance

Haha I wouldn't trust a client wanting to send cash a long distance, if they do want to however (for example from scotland or europe to my doorstep in Leeds, England) I will ask that they send it special delivery and insure it to the amount being sent.

Just to cover my backside and theirs!

Royal Mail do not insure cash. I have tried that before. Failed miserably.

How do they know it's cash if you send it in a DVD or VHS case? :)

Say a design costs £500.00. I think Royal Mail will find it hard to believe a DVD is worth £500.00.

We prefer check payments for design jobs since they're larger amounts and credit card fees would be atrocious. However, if you do eChecks via Paypal, it only cuts $5 in fees.
