Backup Server Setup

Data Center Location : Softlayer DC, Dallas, Texas, U.S.A.
Network Provider : Multiple Internet Backbone
Hardware Setup:
- Dual Xeon Dual Core 2.4 Ghz
- 4GB RAM
- CentOS OS
- 12 TB HD RAID 6 (N+2 Redundancy) Storage.
- 1 GBPS Internet Connection
- Redundant Power Supplies Fed from Diverse Circuits.

How does it work?

Rsync greatly improves efficiency when compared to traditional remote backup methods. By synchronizing only those files that have changed since the last backup, using rsync results in large bandwidth savings. When combined with on-the-fly compression, performing daily rsync backup can result in less data transfer than it would take to perform two backups using the .tar.gz method in a given month.

This service will work both on Linux and Windows Operating System. Easy to understand Instructions will be given to setup the backup in your server. We can also setup this for you.

*- SSH access and able to implement cron tab / automated process is required.

I'm intersted in your backup service, but I have to ask. Do the backup servers themselves have access to the 1GPBS connection, or are they outfitted with 10 or 100 Mbit NICs?

I signed up with ServerSync yesterday and my backups have been copying all day. I'm barely 30% done with my first backup. Lame. It's clear to me they're either throttling bandwidth, or they have lower-speed NICs in the backup servers.

I cannot have this happen with the next solution provider I choose, so please write back. Thanks.

Also, do you support Duplicity or Rdiff? Rsync over the net will kill my bandwidth. I need something incremental for daily use. Thanks.

Also, two things that put me off from wanting to sign up right now are...

1. Your telephone number (1-877-50W-CART) is ringing to a busy signal. I've tried numerous times to call over the past half hour.

2. Your website claims "Live Support / Chat - 24 /7", yet you're chat box shows nobody's available and that they're offline. So it's not really 24/7 support?

I think the community will judge for itself, but I welcome a response anyways. Thank you.

HI,

Currently, our server with 1GBPS connection is full, the available now are those on 100mbps. We do not support rdiff or other system, only rsync. Our chat system is under maintenance today, it will be up in a few hours.

Thanks
Bobby

Not true. I was just in your server and it was getting 24mbps throughput.

If you're expecting full 100mbps output directly from you to a provider, especially one not in the same datacenter, then I would wish you the best of luck in finding one.

Bobby, I'm sorry to post in your thread.
