Akash 11-19-2002, 10:48 PM ok this thread (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=90186) got me thinking. I remembered there was a host that offered unlimited bandwidth for free.
That host is hostultra.com. If you visit their webpage, their free server got shut down (ie, taken away). Now move your eyes a tad to the left. You should see "Unlimited Data Transfer" in bold, and in parentheses you'll see the cost of the bandwidth. My questions:
1) Where did they get bandwidth so cheap?
2) Couldn't this be possible? Unlimited bandwidth, but you pay per GB. Assuming you have unlimited $, isn't this a feasable option??

Everyone sign up with HostUltra!!! Dirt cheap bandwidth and they have no filesize limits and yes Manual Backups. You could also wait until monday and they'll have a free server back online

But then the 33% that can be found cannot get it back as I dont think they will go online again with the free service.
They run on Cogent, but then how does one make a profit. No ads, No limits and now No Business.
Nice earring, but obviously the person doing the layout doesn't understand that you should never have a person looking off the page.
Funny how the only link that actually takes you to a page is the one for paid signups. All the rest are page not found.

Of course, they don't tell you at what speed they'll transfer all that data for you. :D

Pete, without looking at the site, my guess is that is exactly what it means. Hey, at least they are honest about it. Same marketing gimmick that others falsely use, with a note that the too offer unlimited bandwidth for a certain price. It is what all 'unlimited bandwidth' hosts should be putting on thier sites, heh. As I said, this is just from reading your post, not looking at the site.

* We dont place any banners or popups on your site when it loads, we only have an EXIT popup! Your visitors will not see any ads till 10 seconds after they leave your site! in most cases your visitors will not blame your site on this popup because they dont know its an exit!
But again, at least they are up front about it......

acameron 11-23-2002, 11:04 AM It drives me nuts when I see "unlimited bandwidth" or "unlimited disk space". I have seen resellers which can only resell 100 or 500mb plans and on their site they say "unlimited" even though on the backend they are no where near unlimited;)
It's not even possible for a regular co. Disk drives cost money, back bones cost money. And there IS a size limit to both. So in reality there never will be any such thing as "unlimited" disk space or bandwidth.

because server will explode before sending such 500gb each month ..
i do not offer or recommed unlimited word .. but i think RS and eservers.biz offer similar to unlimited.

Same principle at work I know there's not unlimited lines but they state there freehosting is on a 100mbps line and you can use all the transfer you like.
As for there paid hosting its just like any other reseller package, every host on this board will give you the features you request hostulta just offers it as a pay for what you use system 50c/gig bandwidth is a reasonable price which I am sure plenty of hosts on this board would offer transfer overage's at.
There paid hosting is pretty decent and realy for what I needed I don't see why people are attacking the paid side at all.

The difference between Yahoo, and a collective group of free sites is that Yahoo is visited by millions each day. Also 100mbps does not equal unlimited does it?

Wow...that is low..only $2.50/month for unlimited bandwidth. I NEED to know where they are finding these unlimited pipes?
Why do YOU think that the majority of hosts put a limit on accounts?

My ISP gives me unlimited usage of there system That means I can use it unlimited amount of time ? No there's only 24 hours in the day. Its still unlimted usage though.
Take bandwidth as the 24 hours in the day instead its say 100mbps Transfer is how much can be used in those 24 hours. You have an unlimited amount of transfer on a 100mbps line this may only be 33000 gigs outgoing transfer but its unlimited meaning not limited.
I understand where your coming from unlimited bandwidth by definition cannot exist but transfer and bandwidth are completely different things.
Akash 11-23-2002, 10:10 PM So you're saying that if I'm hosted on a server that is connected to 100mbps line I'm allowed to transfer 40TB? No....if the bandwidth is limited, so is the transfer, and you shouldn't advertise either otherwise.
