I am currently hosting my site with reliablesite.net. Yesterday they just shut down my site without any warning. They claim that the CPU usage has been increasing over the last month, so without any contact they just shut down my site. Needless to say I am not please with that decision and would like to transfer my website to a host that can support web services without shutting down my site.

What is your budget regarding this? Also, did you actually find out the reason why your application was using more amount of CPU?

Like most people, I'm looking for the cheapest solution possible that doesn't result in problems. Today I am paying $10 for multiple sites on a shared service. I would gladly migrate all of my sites to a new host or just the one that is using web services. The web service one is my top priority right now.

Interesting if they noticed increasing usage and did not try to contact you to sort things out prior to getting to the point of no return. If this would be a sudden CPU usage surge, it would be nothing wrong with a sudden suspension.

I agree. I would have stopped my testing immediately if I was given the option.

I have found a few hosts I am researching. So far nothing that fits perfectly.

Is database involved in your web service?
Who would access the web service, and at which frequency?
Depends on traffic, you may need VPS and i'm sure you will feel the pain soon if web service has huge traffic.
You say you were testing the web service so it's not for public use and should not use too much cpu/ram?

During my tests I am not using any database. The web services are hard-coded today.
My site generates math tests. Anyone that requests a math test is calling this web service.
My site hosts about 200,000 math tests per month.
I am the only person doing tests right now. Until my site was shut down I was creating about 30 tests a day in testing.

I have submitted my code to the forums as asp.net and they can't find any issues that should cause the problems the host is describing.

I purchased an account at discountasp.net for this site. If anyone knows of a good host for my other sites I would like to move off of the company that shuts down websites without notice. The other sites are much smaller and do not get much traffic.

It might be worth checking out with them to know what actually caused high CPU usage so that you can get to base of this and rectify it if there is something that can be done at your end. Other option is to try out your webservice with some other provider or consider a VPS solution at very end.

I think that is an overstatement to put it mildly :)
If they work for you great, but anyone really serious about their online presence is not going to be hosting with GoDaddy unless they are ill informed or not very savvy when it comes to hosting.

I think shutting down a site for CPU overload might be too severe. :)
But if you are on a share hosting server, any companies would disable your sites from access for about 5 or 10 minutes if your CPU overloaded.
I think bluehost might be a good choice.

I found arvixe.com which had some good reviews on another site and so far has met my needs. I am in the process of moving my sites to that host and cancelling my services with reliablesite.net.

BTW - I did find that a place in my script where I wasn't releasing the resources properly. I'm sure with enough tests the CPU would be affected. My problem is the process that was followed. If the company noticed it happening for a month like they said they had plenty of chances to let me know of the problem prior to shutting down my site. It was not handled properly and I don't want to be afraid of implementing upgrades in the future.

If their description of the events was "You had a sudden surge" I wouldn't have changed hosting companies. That is something I would expect any hosting company to do and I would be upset if they didn't shut down a site on the same server as mine that has that problem. That was not their explanation.

The technician made it very clear that this had been happening for the last month. That gives them about 30 days to give me that feedback.

In my opinion, anyone that depends on their web income should not do business with a hosting company that shuts down websites for the reasons they provided. I can live with quite a few issues you'll consistently find with shared hosting providers, but shutting down my sites without warning is not one of them.
