View Full Version : I'm stuck on WHT.
flitcher 11-19-2002, 06:53 PM Ok, well it's not just WHT but other sites aswell. For whatever reason I am only able to view a select few websites. At first I thought it was only websites I had visited earlier in the day, but it appears that assumption is wrong. I've cleared my history, cache, restarted, shutdown, unplugged ethernet cable, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?
Do you have more than one browser installed on your computer? (Other than the one you're using now?) I suggest you try using your secondary browser, (eg: Opera) to see if you can load some pages in that. If they don't work in Opera or Netscape either, then I'm out of suggestions...:(
I guess if nothing else works, I'd try re-installing IE (different version, of course) to see if it's fixed or not.
interactive 11-19-2002, 06:57 PM i've had a problem like that before kept changing stuff never fixed it. on the particular machine it was a dool boot so i figure it was probly just xp and start only using windows. hope you figure it out, all I can say is "youve been hit by the WHT bug!"
yup , that WHT Virus will do it everytime
AdamTuttle 11-19-2002, 07:17 PM Try and IRC channel, they help alot.. And in real time..
Try dalnet..
flitcher 11-19-2002, 07:18 PM Can't college network blocks IRC ports.
MoSupaFly 11-19-2002, 07:19 PM Dunno... this is a long shot but if you're on WinNT/2000/XP go to the command prompt and type in:
ipconfig /flushdns
Akash 11-19-2002, 07:19 PM what do you get when you type in the address of a website you can't view?
flitcher 11-19-2002, 07:23 PM Depends. For example, if I type in yahoo.com the site's title loads but then the actual content never shows up.
UPDATE: After I typed the above I tried going to yahoo and google and they both worked. However, I am still not able to access other sites such as aol and now news.yahoo.com. I'll try the dnsflush and see what happens.
flitcher 11-19-2002, 07:25 PM Thank you MoSupaFly. Flushing of DNS cache worked. :)
flitcher 11-19-2002, 07:27 PM I take that back. It did not work. Although it allowed me to access a few sites I was unable to before the flush. I am still unable to access other websites.
Acronym BOY 11-19-2002, 07:31 PM Sounds like DNS issues at your ISP. Try heading to a site like samspade that lets you tracert to find out the IP of a site you want to visit. See if you can visit the site by entering its IP.
Yes, college networks can block anything they want, inculdungin http, irc, pop3, q3, etc etc. But if they only block by port, they aren't very smart. Most likely they will have some sort of packet shaping device in use.
MoSupaFly 11-19-2002, 07:32 PM damn... and I was feeling pretty good about myself for a moment. hehehe
flitcher 11-19-2002, 07:35 PM Ok, I cannot access the sites via their IP either.
