Here is the deal. I'm a member of www.off-topic.net the guys on webrats started their own forum at forum.webrats.com and tried to pull people from our site which has been going stong for almost 3 years. I didn't have a problem with it btu the way they went about it wasn't so ethial since their banner stated **** off-topic come to forum.webrats.com. Well the guys who owns webrats.com said he wanted to give out free acounts as long as it doesn't conflict with the paying customers. It was 100mb of space, 5gb of transfer a month. Well the guy made over 100 accounts for various members and this was about 3 weeks ago. Well about 4 days ago everything was down related to their server for almost 2 days. I mean it was like the server didn't even exist, now just 2 days ago i go to log into my account and it points to some fresh install of ensiem. I was like alright cool they got everything working they probally don't have a backup, but I do, no biggie, I msg the guy about 20 times on aim saying what happened to can you post on off-topic on why everything when down and when stuff will be up and I still get no response on why the account is gone or an explination for the downtime. I go to my site yesterday and today and it redirects you to their hosting page. http://morganthomas.webrats.com isn't that special how they say here's free webspace cause i'm so nice but kill your account 2 weeks later after you start getting about 30 unique hits a day so they can draw traffic to advertise their hosting. Part of cnets top 25 my ass they are ****ers. Long story short is they are a shady hoster or reseller and you shouldn't have anything to do with them at all.

Thank you for your time.

Morgan Thomas

cliffnotes: the ****ers promise free space and hosting but rape you with a george foreman size broom stick and no lube just to draw traffic to their hosting biz and get exposure.......

The reason your sites are redirecting to the main site is because ALL subdomains are masked to the same IP. They had to do a full restore and now are working on fixing everything. I don't see how you guys can complain when he had to set up A LOT of free accounts for everyone. It's only been a few days. GIVE IT TIME. I'm sure their main concern is getting all their paying customers back up first, but after you guys bitched so much, I doubt he would be inclined to set anyone from O-T back up.

Shut up, he was doing everyone a favor. I'm sure the fact that everyone's old site is being redirected to webrats.com is NOT intentional. Learn about APACHE and virtual hosting and then bitch.

Lovely how that is your first post......... and you are replying to only this thread hmmm you must be one of the owners.... If you would have learned anything first it would have been fault tolerance and to do backups but you wouldn't know anything about that now would you????? guess not

Well... it was free... and I kinda doubt there was any guarantees with something being free...

I'm not really pissed but there are some things you should always do if you are running a biz, always backup, inform your clients, answer their questions in a timely manner, post an explination etc etc... they did none of those in the 3 days since it first happened.... I'm not pissed by any means but my site was for a personal site of mine for friends with party pics and weekend pics that are now hosted at another place. Even though the accounts were free, and there were alot of them, you should be treated with the same courtesy as paying customers, thats how you get exposure, am I right? I posted this for all the other individuals who had free accounts that are more pissed then I am. Their actions tell what kind of company they are and their service relates to their creditability. Right now their creditability doesn't show much since there is nothing about it on their site or anything and its been almost 4 days now, thats all I'm saying.......

Yes, I could understand that argument if it was a paid host... but really free hosts are a dime a dozen with new ones poping up and dying weekly... I doubt you will find many new free hosts will do that.

Sure some actually care about their customers but the majority of free hosts I can almost promise you don't know the half of what their getting into.

thomor25: go ask for your money back....oh wait, you didn't pay for anything. Do you have any right to complain??? Unless they provided you with a TOS for the free accounts you can't do anything, nor do you have any right to complain...
