Hi guys,

Any advice on how to transfer a .co.uk domain away from OnlineNIC to GoDaddy. I was told that the "tag" needs to be changed to GODADDY, however I do not see anything in our control panel for doing this.

When I contacted support, they claim to be unable to change the tag to GODADDY because their transfer-out system is broken. I know this is untrue, because I transferred 2 other domains away from them a few days ago without a problem.

I really can't wait for them to go out of existence. They have got to be the worst domain registrar out there.

Did you hear me OnlineNIC? You suck! :D

When you register .UKs, your normally get an email from Nominet.

Did you create an account using that email?

If so, you can do it that way. otherwise, you'll need to get OnlineNic to do it.

This is for a client actually, so I am unsure. What is the Nominet web page they would need to visit?

There's a domain management link somewhere.

Simplest route if Onlinenic arent helping, call nominet +44 1865 332211 and the customer can pay £11.50 and they will change the tag for you.

You serious? All they gotta do is call that number, pay the fee, and have it re-tagged to GODADDY. What do they have to do after that? Initiate a normal transfer?

Nope that is it from Nominet's point of view. Your customer will NOT get any extension to their expiry date, but then just tell GoDaddy there is an inbound .UK and they should take care of it for you.

They can then renew with GoDaddy and get the 2 years for whatever GD charge. But you are already a domain reseller, why not just handle it all yourself and make the $$$'s?

Before you do all this you want to check that GoDaddy is set up to receive transfers of .uk domains. I have a vague recollection that I read somewhere that they will register .uk domains but don't have a mechanism for dealing with inbound transfers. This may no longer be the case but you really want to check...

And just to make this absolutely clear - the fee you pay to Nominet is an administration fee which covers the tag change itself and nothing else.
