View Full Version : My WebAuthorities experience
Ok, I'll try to make this as brief as I can.
I ordered a dedicated server from WebAuthorities. Mike was kind and helpful. I sent him an extra $50 by accident and he said it would be credited on my next month.
My US draft took forever to get to him (poor Canadian mail service) but he set my server up anyways. It finally reached him after weeks of wondering where it had gone.
About two weeks after my server was online I decided to cancel. He said sure and terminated my account right away. He told me that he would send me a refund. He got my mailing address info and told me he would cash the draft and mail it to me.
A week and a half passed, and still no refund. So I go and message him on ICQ. He told me he never cashed it yet (I don't know why...) and he told me he lost my info. So I give it to him again and he told me he'd send it the next day. I thought, hmm..ok I'll wait abit longer, he could be busy.
Another week passes and I haven't recieved a refund or any messages so I email sales asking for my refund. I waited a week for a reply and I didn't get any. So I send out another email and yet again, no reply.
I guess the lesson that I learnt was that I should get a credit card and start using that. Atleast that way, I could do a chargeback.
I have yet to recieve any message from Mike about my refund. So I'm kind of upset. I don't know what I can do, if anything. Does anyone have any suggestions?
MikeA 11-19-2002, 02:18 PM In general I don't like to talk about matters such as this in a public forum, but if it's brought up by a client I want to respond.
1) He said he sent payment so I turned his server online, as I trusted him...he sounded like a trustable person.
2) He cancelled like he said 2 weeks after it went online...but I still hadn't recieved payment so I told him I would just tear up the CHECK that he sent.
3) About a week or two after he cancelled I got the check.
4) The way he explained it is that this is a check and NOT a money order.
I haven't cashed it so there isn't anything to refund and the way he tells me it's a check. So I guess I don't see the problem, the money should still be in his checking account. If this is a money order tell me and I'll cash it and send it back, but this whole time I have the impression that its not.
hmm
seems to me you both should be keeping better detailed records about your financial transactions.
not knowing whether it is a check, draft, cash - a little monopoly money :S ...........
It
IS a US Draft. :) Here is the scan of my copy along with the receipt from the bank.
A US draft is the same thing as a money order, kind of. The money is not in my account.
Ok fine, you were abit confused about whether it was a cheque or US Draft (even though it SAYS US DRAFT right at the top). I got one Question for you: Why didn't you answer my emails? You were pretty quick to reply here, why not reply what you said here in my emails?
BTW, I am trustable, please do not try to make me look like I am the type to lie. I did not screw you over it was the postal service that was late. I can prove that I mailed it around the same day I got the US DRAFT. (sorry for the caps, I just had to emphasize the draft :D)
I would like to add that Mike is a nice guy, in no way is this thread about bashing him or his service. He runs a great company. I am posting about my experience. It just happens to be not a good one.
wsdhnet 11-19-2002, 11:03 PM I have to chime in here on Mike's behalf. I have always know Mike to be fair and honest and I can't help but feel that this was nothing more than some crossed wires here. The fact that he put your server on line without payment speaks volumes. I doubt you would find too many people willing to go out on a limb like that.

DigiCrime 11-20-2002, 01:18 AM Mike was one of my first hosts few years ago and I liked his service then, hard to say what needs to be done in this situation but I hope it works out for the both of you guys

Why did you cancel the server after just 2 weeks?
Seems like a lot of work involved to make payment for something and then cancel so soon.
I had a server at Webauthorities early this year and I was very happy with the service. Mike's also always available on ICQ most of the time.
I think it's just a misunderstanding issue. If you talk to Mike kindly, I'm sure he'll help you out quickly.
Ok first off, I want to say I AM NOT SAYING ANYTHING NEGATIVE WITH THE SERVICE.
The fact that he put your server on line without payment speaks volumes. I doubt you would find too many people willing to go out on a limb like that.
Yes, I agree with that and I already said he was a nice guy. But does that mean that he could just ignore me after telling me I can get a refund? Does that justify his actions? I don't think so.

He took long to get me my ips but I didn't tell him that was the reason why I wanted to cancel. I told him I didn't want it no more. So he was the one who started with the whole refund thing. I think it is irrelevant because he asked what was going to happen with the draft. He was the one who said that he would give me the remainder of the amount but he didn't.

I have emailed him and sent him IM's and he didn't respond. I can talk to him kindly all I want, but what good is it if he doesn't respond?
Look, I am not here to bash his service or character. I am not here to sound like a prick. I just want my refund that he said he would give me. Is that too much to ask?
Inspite of this thread he has still yet to contact me. He could atleast email me and tell me what is going on. He took time to post here but I guess he has no time to email me back concerning this situation.
Since he posts here I have another question for you, Mike:
I haven't cashed it so there isn't anything to refund and the way he tells me it's a check. So I guess I don't see the problem, the money should still be in his checking account. If this is a money order tell me and I'll cash it and send it back, but this whole time I have the impression that its not.
So Mike, if I go to the bank tomorrow and do a trace on the US Draft, and it isn't cashed. What do you want me to do?

I guess this is where I'm a bit fuzzy. If you can trace it, why can't you cancel it and get your money back?
I will go cash it and send you your money back. I just want it known that I assumed by the way you talked that it was a check that could be cancelled and not a money order.
I'll take care of it on Monday.
As for your comment on "how fast I posted" well, I had about 3 clients who read these forums constantly tell me about it within minutes of you posting it. I don't come here as much as I would like, just to busy, so I rely on others to keep me abreast of what goes on here. If they hadn't told me it would likely be that you would have seen a post 2 or 3 days later.
OK. We've finally talked and we both weren't on the same page. We have talked it over and have now resolved the issue.
