View Full Version : Frustrated!I need Hawkhost have my data back
yculer 10-29-2009, 11:16 AM Is hawkhost here?I have a reseller account with you which was under ddos attack on Oct 17th and today. You suspend my account.I do not ask you to enable my accont I just want my data.
Here is the email:
I noticed that there was another DDOS attack.Just sereral days ago I asked you which domain was under DDos attack on Oct 17th,and you told me the DDOS attack were unable to determine the actual account being hit due to the type of attack. You can check this ticket
[#MNZ-950191]: Need help for set up private name servers and ssh
The reason I asked you about the domain attacked last time is that I was trying to delete that account. The reason I asked you to have my account SSH access enabled is that I was to install a script to protect my account from DDos,but It failed because I have no root control to install it.As you can see I have try my best to DDos protection.
What‘s more, today is already Oct 29th and last attack was happend on Oct17th,how could you say I am a frequent ddos target (2 in 10 days)? That’s longer than 10 days.
If my account really can not be enabled I beg you give my data back.I feel quite frustrated now.Could you please have my account enabled later just for a short time. I need have my data back and I will transfer to another webhosting company quickly.I would appreciate it a lot.
Anyway thanks for your help in the past month.
Regards
Chris

There was yet another DDOS on your account. Your account will no longer be enabled now as you're not only a frequent ddos target (2 in 10 days) you're violating our acceptable use policy.

DominicQuick 10-29-2009, 11:57 AM Hello Chis,
I understand where the host is coming from. If there is a DDOS attack on an account its safer to suspend rather then let it go on. DDOS hacks can lead to network failures so im not suprised to hear that they have suspended your account.
It may actually be worth finding our why you are getting DDOS'd as it can be a varying factor.
Also it states in their AUP that they reserve the right to suspend if any illicit activity is found and DDOS is the most extreme type of taking a website down.
Raising the issue here wont do much as the company must do whats in the best interests of their customers including yourself. Why should others lose out if your account is the one being attacked?
Best Wishes,
Dom

Suspending/kicking him off the network is fine to protect the rest of the customers. I think what the OP here is saying he just wants his data so he can go elsewhere, not necessarily complaining about the taken actions..
Did they not respond to your ticket? How long has it been since your last response to them?

What OP trying to point out is to get the data back and move on...
zomex 10-29-2009, 12:35 PM I hope it all works out for you and you get your data back.
IGXHost 10-29-2009, 12:51 PM I'm sure they'll be able to give you your data back. Have you tried contacting them directly through the use of proper methods? WHT is not a helpdesk you know. :)
TonyB 10-29-2009, 01:10 PM We already told you via the ticket how to access your data several hours ago. We null routed the IP your reseller account was hosted on after repeated DDOS attacks since you've been hosted with us.
As far as violating our AUP we clearly state we do not allow free hosting out of our reseller accounts and you've been doing it. It would not surprise me if these attacks related to this fact.
TEKSTORMPC 10-29-2009, 03:35 PM I have to agree with everyone else they do have a right to suspend you if you were a threat to the other clients and the company itself.
DominicQuick 10-29-2009, 04:24 PM Hiya Folks,
I understand what the OP is trying to do however i have known other hosts to keep the files as they could potentially be a problem in relation to a DDOS attack. Some hosts do look out for other hosting companies. I did the same some months back where there was a serial website and a warez website and because it was illegal i terminated without notice and no backup.
Some hosting providers have certain policies in place however if the files hosted were the source of the DDOS then maybe its in the best interests of the hosting company to look over the files to see what was there. The DDOS wasnt the only reason as the OP stated. It was also in breach of their AUP policy.

DominicQuick 10-29-2009, 04:27 PM I must add this as they clearly state the consequences:
13. Network disruptions and unfriendly activity: Use of the Hawk Host service for any activity which affects the ability of other people or systems to use Hawk Host Services or the Internet. This includes "denial of service" (DOS) attacks against another network host or individual user. Interference with or disruption of other network users, services or equipment is prohibited. It is the Member's responsibility to ensure that their network is configured in a secure manner. A Subscriber may not, through action or inaction, allow others to use their network for illegal or inappropriate actions. A Subscriber may not permit their network, through action or inaction, to be configured in such a way that gives a third party the capability to use their network in an illegal or inappropriate manner. Unauthorized entry and/or use of another company and/or individual's computer system will result in immediate account termination. Hawk Host will not tolerate any subscriber attempting to access the accounts of others, or penetrate security measures of other systems, whether or not the intrusion results in corruption or loss of data.

We were recently kicked to the curb for a DDoS attack, and we don't hold a grudge against HawkHost. First reply from HawkHost was my account was suspended and won't be activated again, and I can get my backup from this link and they gave me a link. They did give me the option to get my data, I'm going to guess the OP didn't see the link or doesn't quite understand how cPanel does backups.
yculer 10-30-2009, 06:55 AM Hello
I spend the whole day telling my clients what happend. After I posted this thread I do reveive your ticket on how to access my data.I am terribly sorry for the DDos attack.Nothing is wrong with you Hawkhost.Perhaps I was overreacted when you suspended my account.Just two days ago a friend of mine share the same experience. His reseller account was also under DDos attack and had to upgrade to VPS because the web hosting company asked him to do so.Otherwise they won't gave him data back.Because of DDOS attack he losted $500.When he upgraded to VPS and looked for another web hosting choice I recommended you Hawkhost.
I have found out the reason why my accont was under attack and changed my domain and ip address.I have set up a new reseller account in another web hosting company.Everything is OK till now.I have my data back.Hawkhost also gave me money back.
So I just hope Hawkhost could keep my data for one day or two.In this way I will have enough time to check if all the data has been moved to the new account.
Thank you for your help,Hawkhost.I will still recommend you to all my friends who are seeking fast and reliable web hosting.

yculer 10-30-2009, 07:13 AM Just add something. The reason why my account was under attacked has nothing to do with free hosting.Someone who do web hosting business attacked me and not only me,also my friends.

Thanks for coming back and clarifying the issue a bit - we appreciate it as a company / people on WHT like to have closure of sorts from both parties.
Though this isn't the avenue to discuss this, your data will be available for a bit.. if you have any questions on specifics or concerns please direct it towards your open ticket.
Best of luck with your ventures :)
