I know Adwords for web hosting probably is a waste of time. But is it any good for advertising my web design business. Web design doesn’t seem that competitive on Adwords compared to web hosting.

Adwords is good way to promote your business, but for hosting promotion I probably agree with you.
About design, I think you need to tell in which type of design you are working, logo, website,business cards or etc. ? And target to that niches

Adwords is good but i think your best bet is to make a post in WHT. Then go to my.inetinteractive.com, make an account and sticky your thread in the design offers forum. I guarantee you will get mad views.

Also perhaps also learn how whmcs templates work and offer integrations etc.

I think Ill give adwords a try because I've got some free vouchers aswell so why not.
