View Full Version : HELP! Another AIT hosting disaster.

I need help. I am the co-owner of a fairly popular car enthusiast’s forum and in desperate need of a hosting company. Our old hosting company, Hosting4Less, could not handle our CPU load and we were forced to switch. We switched to AIT less than 2 weeks ago and they have proven themselves to be thoroughly unreliable, also given from what I have read here. For the past WEEK my site has been up and down (mostly down), and their explanation is that they are having some server issues and it will be corrected shortly. This cannot continue.

I would love to use a shared hosting solution because I do not want the hassle of administering the server myself.

My requirements are as follows:

--Shared hosting preferred
--600+ MBs Disk
--60+ GB transfer/month (growing steadily 3-4 GBs/month)
--CGI
--A good deal of CPU utilization (Running InfoPop UBB.Classic )
--I currently pay $60/month, but will do what it takes to keep it running 99.8%

I need to find a good host IMMEDIATELY! My site is essentially crippled and I’m loosing money fast.

Please advise.

Perhaps you should try looking through the offers section - or read through the special offers - many companies can probably work up a good price for you and handle the services/reliability you need.

You seem to have a pretty obvious grasp on what you need - and this is the right place to find the answers!

A possibility for you might be a virtual private server.
Some companies offer these without having the expense of the full dedicated server.
I know www.tera-byte.com offers these and so does
www.remarkablehosting.com
You would have to research both companies yourself but as far as I know both have a good reputation.
Good Luck.

Yes, I've heard good things about those two companies also.

PS: For the record, I am NOT looking to take on customers of that magnitude... so I wasn't "soliciting" :)

Many hosts do not support the server intensive UBB. You may want to switch to a sql BB to ease you pain. (and costs)

Seems everything is better now. The site is up and running smoothly. Apparently there was a massive server based issue, and a DSN issue. Apparently someone goofed with the registration and things got fouled up.

While AIT is always willing to help, my webmaster and I needed to basically walk the tech through the fix-it procedure. Sad really…

If you think this is the end of your troubles, just wait. AIT is going to really make you suffer. You should go through their contract with a fine tooth and comb and you will discover the discrepencies on your own. You are really shooting yourself in the foot by trusting a popular site with AIT to begin with. And that too after reading the criticism on AIT on this forum. Of well, its your site's funeral.

Fordman! Dude - get away from AIT as fast as possible - if you think AIT is getting better, think again, it WILL get worse. You would be wise to pay double what you are paying to another host NOW so that you can dump AIT. And you better dump them before 30 days or you will be charged for "accelerated portion" of a 6 mo contract - do you know about that? Go scramble arouind you CC # online ASAP so they dont get any more $$ -they did not have real time CC validation last time I checked.

Send me a priate message for more details on the worst hosting company EVER, with now leadership and drones at the helm!:D

IMHO, you're in dedicated server country there. You might want to change to a more server friendly forum, like VBulletin etc. Even then, you still might need your own server. Nocster had some specials going and SoftwareRevue gives them the thumbs up. Maybe check them out? :)
