Well, there are a LOT of these, I am trying to find the best one to use.

Anyone here use any? and recommend any?

Would like to hear some firsthand experiences if possible.

Thanks in advance

Use your states online filing service. It's cheaper, and honestly not that complicated.

Did you already have a business license? EIN? What information did you need to have with you?

I'm in the county so I was told as a service company I didn't even need a license so now that I'm ready to incorporate I'm curious what I'll need to do what you did :) $40 sounds awesome, lawyers are telling me $700-1500 to do this!!!! yeah here's a few more !!!! for emphasis.

I "played stupid" and walked in off the street with this document filled out: www.winshack.net/images/sosdf-8.pdf and $40, plus the local filing fee, which is $35 I think. I went to the AL dept of state http://arc-sos.state.al.us/CGI/SOSCRP02.MBR/INPUT and searched online for any form of the name of my company before filing for the company name. I think this is what most lawyers charge $600 for, plus a fancy seal and book that you'll never use. From the date the lady at the courthouse stamped my form, I had 30 days to file the document she gave me, which is at http://www.ador.state.al.us/incometax/bus_priv_tx/2002BPTFRMS.htm Forms PSI and PSA. If you have assets, you might get an accountant for this part, but mine were small, so I just had to pay $100 Alabama privelege tax, which is the minimum, and a $50 late fee, because I forgot to send it in.

When I went to get my business license (in the same office) I just used my social for the TIN and EIN, because an LLC is just for personal liability, but income reported on my personal taxes, which I like. I haven't gotten a real federal tax ID, yet, I'm going to go to an accountant first (steve kinser).

I then took all that to my bank and opened a small business account.

HTH

speaking of accountants and lawyers and such, anyone know of any websites that offer like online consultation for a fee? if so that'd be really cool!

still interested if anyone has used any of the online LLC apps, i really would like some opinions.

Wisconsin online application for LLC is at http://wdfi.org which is where we did ours. The process took about 15 minutes and cost $130.00 For an additional fee you can get a seal and all the paperwork sent to you. <p>
We also filled out the application for our EIN online at http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/page/0,,id=12528,00.html then phoned it in. Received our EIN in about 10 minutes total, including hold time.
Bear in mind this was over a year ago, but things should still be similar now. Fast, easy, and something no company should be without.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what good is the seal and "paperwork" good for? :)

California is the most expensive, here you have to pay 800$ for LLC every year
