View Full Version : How to track down people in Austalia?
Reptilian Feline 11-18-2002, 08:21 AM To all you aussies out there...
If I want to find someone in Australia, how do I do it. Is there a website or someting? My hubby has family on his fathers side, but don't know all their names. The older generation is most likely dead by now, so it would be cousins and such. Any idea on how to find them?
okihost 11-18-2002, 08:28 AM This might help http://www.nettrace.com.au/resource/search/people.html

Whitepages sounds like a good idea, I'll ask my hubby for any names he can think of. Just thought there might be A LOT of names to go through.
The Net-trace site seems like a good place as well.

I'm in Australia, if you want to email me some details ...names, dates, likely area of Australia, last known where abouts I will see what I can find out for you. The Salvation Army is quite active in this area (I'm not associated with them however a friend is)

I'll be the cool guy with the red sports car that gets all the chicks and you can be the dorky comical sidekick. :buck: :emlaugh:
TheDoctor 11-18-2002, 12:27 PM Hay Aussie Bob and the rest of you mob ... I think this was meant to be a sensible question/ request where do you lot get of coming into somebody's thread and hijacking the whole thread, if you haven't got anything constructive to say that is related to the original post .. then nick off. Just because you have about 5 million posts between you doesn't give you extra rights.
Relax Doc, I think Reptillian Feline has some good leads. and a bit of somewhat humourous banter to boot.
btw, in your search, if you get directed to websites that claim to "find out anything about anyone" with a program called NetDetective for only $29.95, (I think) this program is junk.
You will find this stupid proggy on many different websites, all copied word for word. Save your money. It will give you way more reading and way less constructive advice than you have recived for free in this thread already. (My friend got suckered)
susannad 11-18-2002, 08:30 PM yes Doc, I was going to ask if reptilianetc had an idea of what state the rellies may have been and perhaps even a city .. the city or the bush ?
have they always been here ? is it far enough back for some genealogical look ups or is it recent ?
or did a serviceman stay on here after WW2 ?
edude 11-18-2002, 09:27 PM Why hire a hitman? when you can hire Aussiebob, he sure looks like one ;)

i am a 11-18-2002, 09:52 PM being a recent transplant of australia, i can say since we all know each other, i'm sure one of us actually knows these people.. kinda the whole "you're from canada? do you know bob?" syndrome...
but on a slightly more serious note, more information would be best, perhaps if you have any idea what part of the country (state preferably but a "east coast, west coast" thing may help as well...) they were in some of us in various locations could provide you with more specific resources...

I'd normally respond to such a post with the usual wit and sarcasim that such a post deserves, but I'm in such a mellow mood today and I really couldn't give a damn about it. :D
TheDoctor 11-19-2002, 03:41 AM ATST ..yes I have seen a copy of that program. I concur ..basically it is useless. Well I shouldn't say that should I ... it probably performs the task it was created to perform ..namely make money for the creator. However there not getting any of my money.
Reptilian Feline 11-19-2002, 05:28 AM I don't mind the banter :) I can give as well as get...
Thanks Doc, I'll consider your offer. :)
The people are supposed to live in the Sydney-area, but they might have moved. I asked my hubby about names, and the only one he thought might be of help was the name of his fathers sister (I think). As far as I know, they came during or after WW2 from Finland and they don't have the same name as my hubby, because his father changed his name when he emigrated to Sweden. They have never been in touch, and this is really a long shot. I thought it might be fun to see if it was possible to find them.
I don't need a hitman --- at least not yet ;)
susannad 11-19-2002, 07:08 AM ah reptilianfeline you've narrowed down the field quite a lot !
from Finland ?
and your father changed his name when he emigrated to sweden ? So he had a Finnish name ? ... so I'm assuming he is a Finn ?
If so, that makes it easier ... the Finnish community is small, yet active . I can get some info from them..
if you want, you're welcome to email me
:D
edit : whoops if you want some finnish contact don't email me .. that email address here is changing servers .. give me a PM instead .. strangely enough I had a meal tonight with my friend Hekka Kempii who also works for a finnish language radio pogramme here
