View Full Version : web reviews?
lisadragon 11-18-2002, 03:00 AM i'm interested in these companies but i don't know the tools to reserach them more.. suggestions? this is for a new account..
addaction.net
computertronics.com
rcthost.com
i did a research on them in WHT.. and i came to a conclusion that
- addaction.net is alright.. ;) -- tho can u provide me a link to your alertra .. if u've subcribed, that is. very active participant, and if any problems, tech service is great.. i read that a lot on WHT.
- there is not much info on computertronics.com, can someone please help? (alertra/domain registered when?/server location, reliability? --the same goes for all listed)
- rcthost.com is actually my current host, but can someone give another point of view or also server info, comments/critiques?
what tools is used for checking domain whois? i used internic.net but nothing shows up? and since i don't have any tools for doing trace routes (i'm not sure abt the jargon) .. and locating the server or data centres.. can someone exprienced please help me?
HingyGuy 11-18-2002, 03:50 AM Hi there Lisa,
I have only tried addaction. they are my current host. I have hosted with them for two months so far. I have just yesterday signed up for Aletra so I can not give you any stats on that so far, I will be happy to share with you once it runs for a while.
I am quite happy with them, the prices are reasonable, although more bandwith would be nice. The have a special now which basically gives you 1st 6 months free, so basically nothing to lose there.
What's important to note is that I am not in USA, therefore I can not just pick up the phone and call. I am therefore excelusively reliant on their e-mail support. This has been anywhere from an hour to about a day, but never more then overnight. (I'm GMT +2)
So having been with them for two months might not be enough for an extensive analysis but they meet my product and support needs.
One thing I think you have to keep in mind is that even though there are a lot of hosts out there, most of them resell to some extent, and most of the guys/girls have day jobs. So the 24/7 2hour response time can never be guaranteed. But i would say that once have yourself set up, the site stays up and you get support within a day you should stay with those guys.
So to sum up for me addaction so far is good but as I said .. only 2 months so far ...
lisadragon 11-18-2002, 04:10 AM i am also overseas.. am a Bruneian but currently studying in Malaysia ..so GMT +8 for me. There is no reliable hosting company in Asia, so I go for US-based ones..
Just to clarify more, what i'm looking for is reliability. Server downtime is a big no-no.. and also Support Forums would be nice ^_^ I'd like to talk to other members of a host.. like www.myacen.com, and www.valcato.net. As well as being in business for a year or more would be nice.
thanks for your reply, HingyGuy..
lisadragon 11-18-2002, 09:05 AM please someone help me?
hostpc.com 11-18-2002, 09:19 AM Sorry - I can't offer any specific advice on the hosts you mentioned, but there are several in the Shared Webhosting Special Offers category that look promising...
net-trend 11-18-2002, 09:27 AM Lisadragon,
Go with the one with a money back guarantee. That way if you picked the wrong one, you can always get your money back.
lisadragon 11-18-2002, 09:58 AM thanks for the tip...
tho i still wish for concrete data
pbuilder 11-18-2002, 07:41 PM Go for addaction.net, it's a pretty reliable host, lots of nice features and the price is very reasonable. Now they have special for 6 months free, how can you go wrong?
Their support is great and they setup my account in about 10 minutes, it was extremely fast. Comparing to my previous host (Aletia/Jaquarepc) took me 1 whole day to do it.
So far I don't get any major problems, I can run all the scripts without any problems. I am very satisfied with this host, they know how to do business.
I highly recommended addaction.net.
lisadragon 11-18-2002, 10:37 PM how long have you been with addaction.net?
thanks there :)

About 3 weeks, but their support has been great so far. They replied to my question within an hour, coparing to my previous host, usually a day or more.
Among the 3 hosts, I will choose addaction.net. At least you can try it free for 6 months before you decide to stay or not.
Another host you can consider it's hostworkz.com, it's my second choice.
