How does this work? I have reseller hosting, but I'm mostly a web designer so I don't really know all the ins and outs of domain transferring.
My client has a pre-existing domain already and a site. I want to transfer the domain to my hosting which has Cpanel/WHM + WHMCS then do a site redesign.
Since I don't know how to explain to the client that he needs to initiate a domain transfer request or something, what can I do?
Should I get him to just point the domain to my nameservers?
Thanks for helping out ;)

To transfer a domain is something different than changing the nameservers. Who is the domain registrar and is the whois information of the domain in the name of your client?

Looks like it's Enom. Here's the nameservers
dns1.name-services.com
dns2.name-services.com
dns3.name-services.com
dns4.name-services.com
dns5.name-services.com

Nameservers are irrelevant in this case. You have to point the domain to the IP where you're hosting your client's site.

gloomz, do you want to transfer the domain in question to your domain registration service or just want the domain to remain with the original registrar but to be hosted on your reseller account.
To just host the domain, your client need to change the namservers to yours.
To transfer the domain under your system, using your WHMCS your client will initiate the transfer process, once transfer order is placed, domain's admin contact will get a transfer confirmation email sent from your registrar system, once the domain admin contact has confirmed the transfer, transfer along with one year renewal will take place in approx 7 days.
Also note that to transfer, domain should be unlocked, should not have been recently booked or renewed, and if privacy is used for WHOIS, it should be disabled.
Also if you are also reselling from Enom chain, then I think the domain can be just moved from the original account to an account under you and that will be free.

Ah, it sounds pretty easy and automated then. Will it say in the Whois whether the domain is locked or not?

Yes it shows in WHOIS whether the domain is locked or not.

Ah, like here on who.is it says:
Status: Locked
and
Registrar: ENOM, INC.
Whois Server: whois.enom.com
Referral URL: http://www.enom.com
Status: clientTransferProhibited
What does this mean? I do have a domain reseller account, not at enom though, at net earth one.

Ask your client (Domain Admin) to unlock the domain first.
For this he/she will have to login to their Enom account and from there they can unlock the domain.
Don't transfer to your web hosting company. Leave it at eNom and just change the nameservers to point to your new host.
