Would members be interested in contributing to a WHT blog? We're thinking it could be a resource center where members, including staff, contribute articles relevant to the hosting industry. Anything from news to How-To and guides could be posted.

What do you think?

I say go for it, anything that helps WHT community is good.

I'm for it. We can at least try it... I don't think the news section gets too much popularity at the moment. :(

Gee, didn't we try that already (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/wiki/)?

So is your constructive feedback that a blog is the same as a Wiki? I'm confused, I'd figure you'd know the difference between the two.

I have been saying this long time... to change the entire WHT something like sitepoint. This would be a nice idea. Quality of posts here are rich, but articles are less and this would surely add a good value.

My personal opinion is that a blog would be beneficial but other things are more important.

Why hasn't WHT given any thought to very indepth profiles? Allow us to post up reviews of our 10+ providers / hosts that are then databased and ranked. The possibilities are endless. The current "forum" model is really lacking when it comes to reviews, searching, etc.

I just feel the latest additions weren't that beneficial... maybe I'm wrong but I know I don't really use the news, wiki, etc.

Oh yeah, let's open the biggest webhosting forum to a huge potential for fraudulent reviews, or 'favorites'. Not only a bad idea, but a very, very bad idea.

WHT has enough problems with bad reviews, ratings from individuals whom have no experience with companies or just have a vendetta. We don't need to give them any more room to detract from valid businesses.

I'm with Steven on this one, bad idea. The wiki wasn't a bad idea, until people started being forced to use it for things like howtos, which made things more confusing (ie: do I go there, do I go here), and a blog for howtos will just make them worse, adding more into that.

If you start it on the proper professional level with high quality content then there's lots of benefits for users. Have a very strict quality standards for articles on the blog. I have a few web design and internet marketing articles would be interested in sharing...

My only question - how would it be decided who contributed / which content got featured?

If it was a free for all, it'd change so quickly it'd be rather irrelevant I think. If it's going to be limited in some way (as I imagine it simply has to be) - how is that going to be decided?

I agree with the point on the wiki, personally, I rarely ever go on there. What will the blog bring to WHT that the forums and even the Web Hosting News section doesn't already need?

Make it something new and more interactive then just a blog. a Web 2.0 thing.

It's called moderation.

What about no reviews unless you've been a member for years?

I find it funny that the forum is "held back" in terms of features because of a group of "baddies".

All I know is I have opinions on atleast 10+ Providers that would benefit anyone looking for dedicated and shared hosting. Instead of sharing these on WHT, they just don't happen...

Reviews on this website good/bad are wasted reviews. Lost under useless threads only after a few short days. Replies are nothing but "hey, update us in a month" with the replier having a nice flashy sig :D
