View Full Version : Integrating Dedicated IP into DNSZone in WHM

Hello,

I have a small reseller account which I use to provide hosting to clients who get their websites designed by me.

I use Cpanel and WHM for my reseller account and have my own nameservers. The domains are all pointing to my nameservers, not my hosting provders nameservers. When I check the WHM DNS Zone, all my sites and my clients sites are on my reseller hosting provider's shared hosting IP, say 50.50.50.1 and on their Nameservers

I have recently purchased two dedicated IP's, one which I want to use on my Reseller Hosting Site (say 50.50.50.5) and the other which I want to use for all my clients and some of my other sites (say 50.50.50.6)

In WHM, I selected "Edit DNSZone" and updated the nameserver setting to my nameservers and changed "A record" for one of my sites to 50.50.50.6 (dedicated IP). This was done about 36 hours ago. Unfortunately, I'm unable to access the site which I assigned the dedicated IP to.

http://www.vikz.net (not much on the site, just an image for testing)

This is the message I get:

You are seeing this error because of your DNS Cache, you need to clear it.
Please note that ONLY you will be seeing this page as you visit frequently, other visitors will be loading your webpage without a problem.

Please follow these steps below to resolve the problem, or alternatively Google "How to clear DNS cache"
If you still get this error after 24 hours please contact our support department

Windows? It.s pretty simple and straight forward.
1. Fire up a Command Prompt
2. Run the following command

> ipconfig /flushdns

You can also take a look at what.s in your DNS resolver cache with the following command

> ipconfig /displaydns

I have flushed my local DNS Cache as well as cleared the browser cache. I've even switched my broadband DNS to OpenDNS in case it was my ISP, but the site still doesn't come up.

All my other sites and my clients sites which are on the shared hosting IP - 50.50.50.1 and my hosting providers nameservers are working fine. Now, my query is, is the nameserver change to my nameservers causing the problem or the IP change or a combination of the two.

Any response will be highly appreciated.

All IP's mentioned are fictional IP's. If mentioning my real IP's will help, please let me know and I'll add them to my next post.

Hello,
This actually needs to be done by your host, I dont think you can do it yourself. Here are the instructions.

1) Log into the Root WHM and navigate to

Main >> Multi Account Functions >> Change Multiple Sites' IP Addresses

2) Change the sites IP Address to your new shared IP
3) The root reseller will need to then set up all future sutes to use that IP address by going to

Main >> Resellers >> Reseller Center >> Manage Main Shared/Ipless Ip

Thank you for your response Keith.

Another thing is that my reseller account has a master reseller option. If I go to

WHM > Plugins > WHMreseller Master Resellers > Create sub resellers

I can see both my dedicated IP's assigned to me. Is there any way I can change it using that or will the change have to be made by my hosting provider / root user?

Hello,
I am not sure if WHMReseller has that option to be honest.

I raised a support ticket with my host. Will post here once it's fixed. Thanks again for your help Keith.

Is your reseller domain pointing to 50.50.50.5 or ?
Pinging vikz.net [63.223.110.33]

When you purchase dedicated ip, your host would ask you which domain you want to use the dedicated ip.
Domain must be assigned the ip.
Change DNS record does not update apache configuration for the domain so you see the default page (dns error).

Hello,
The OP Said that the 50.50.50.5 is a fictitious IP Address. He will need to have the hosts support team change the IP Addresses in the WHM Reseller Center (Note Not WHMReseller)

Like Keith said, 50.50.50.5 is a fictitous IP. One of my dedicated IP's is 63.223.110.33.

Thanks for the rest of the information. I found that very useful indeed and will update the support ticket I had raised earlier with my host.
