As far I know the upgrade of ZenCart is not an easy job.

I would suggest either pinnacle cart or Miva Merchant - both are well establish, fully supported, PCI-DSS compliant carts.

I recommend Miva.

I believe there are multiple points that would effect a choice of the software for your reseller business: functionality of software, pricing policy, terms and conditions set by the company - software provider, etc.

There are several good options for open source shopping carts. Check out Magento Commerce, which has an active development community.

Magento Commerce and Virtuemart are some good shopping carts.

There are several free shopping cart like Oscommerce and Zencart that are completely free and offers most features that you expect in modern shopping cart.

I recommend the following:

My suggestions are Zen Cart, X Cart and Cube Cart. Hope that these e-commerce solutions will meet your requirements completely.

These are the ones that have piqued my interest as actually moving FORWARD. To me, X-Cart looks like it's straight out of the 80's, Zencart not much better, and OS Commerce looking the worst of them all. Let's see some innovation in eCommerce, come on.

Loving the checkout process that CS-Cart has - so beautiful. And all three I mentioned have very well designed admin panels with technology that doesn't look like it's from 1993. Very well done.

I would recommend you also CS-Cart and X-Cart. Both are excellent shopping carts, feature rich. In addition CS-Cart do allow reselling with bigger discounts than X-Cart.

zen cart is also good

Magento is the best for full feature shopping carts. Very powerful backend.

For simple websites with a couple products then just go with PayPal 'buy now' button. Just copy/paste code directly into your current website.

I too would recommend Miva Merchant as a reliable cart with great support and an easy to use interface.

I built all my own websites and some of my friends' sites on zen-cart. It is really powerful and flexible. Even better, it has a nice support forum. Really helpful for me. :)

Stay away from magento. It looks nice, has a cool looking backend, but the code is complete crap. They gave you all the features you don't need and none that you do.

There are 2 carts i would reccomend under $200/month

It really depends on what you are expecting of the shopping cart script. If you are looking for a free or paid script. I personally use Zen-Cart, however Zen-Cart is not "out of the box" software. You would need to install some extra modules like SEO Magic for SEO friendly urls.
Or you can use OS Commerce. There is a new version 3 that includes a lot of new features (out of the box ) that zen-cart dont have .

If you find the "free" stuff not enough for you not only that $200 is enough to buy many excellent pay carts like X-Cart, CubeCart or Avactis v4. Spend a bit more and that is not far from CS-Cart's pricing.

They are as fully featured as those monthly service fee carts and several of them are open source.

Like the above poster I feel those huge monthly and service fees are better spent on your own dedicated servers. Best of all no product limitations and dedicated resources rather than some sorta shared enviroment. No reason for monthly fees unless you really feel like leasing your licence.

I recommend Megento for full features & powerful back end.

i suggest Interspire Shopping Cart. it's very easy to use!

Interspire support is very slow and most of the features are copied from cs-cart.

I am not a big fan of Interspire's pricing model and user support. They don't have much publicly available information and were very aggressive in marketing me when I did a trial.

I found CS-Cart had a lot of the same functionality and a lot more documentation that made transition to it easier overall and at a fraction of the price. I like that +400 page PDF but sorta wish they had a web version =P

Still either way while comparing documentation and transitions I don't think I had a more pleasant experience than Avactis as a developer because their equally good +300page PDF/website documentation and community forums.
