Hi,
Just about time for a dedicated (the first).
Any suggestions on what I might need in addition to the server?
I assume the server itself with handle its own DNS functions but how do you folks feel about a seconday DNS server for the first go?
This server will be for hosting purposes.
Im looking for something in the range of managed, 99 bucks a month,
20-40 gigs space,
50-200 gigs trans,
p3 1.0 or better,
cpanel,
512 or more Ram
rh 7.2 or 7.3
Will this be sufficient to reliably host some sites with nothing else needed?
Thanks,
whatever

Well looking at Rackshack they have:
Intel Pentium III
1GHz
512 MB RAM
40 GB Hard Drive
400GB Monthly Transfer
Redhat 1.1
$99 month
Setup fee: $1
Intel Pentium III
1GHz
512 MB RAM
2x 40 GB Hard Drive
400GB Monthly Transfer
Ensim
$99 month
Setup fee: $99
Thats all I could find for $99/month and PIII.

managed and $99/mo is kinda hard methinks. I think rackshack's $99/mo is unmanaged, but don't quote me on it.
You might want to consider a managed firewall in addition to server management.

Yeah I believe RS's $99/month deal is relatively unmanaged. E-mail their sales department and find out.

It is unmanaged. They are also known for under average support if you need it.

rackshack have fantastic support, people often forget these are UNMANAGED servers (what do you expect for $99).
They support you very will with anything which comes with the server as standard- but will not help with any extra stuff you install such as DNS.
There IRC chat room is great for help and in the past they have gone the extra mile for me even on unsupported issues such as DNS they tried to provide pointers and things for me to look into.
Back to the topic,
For a $99 deal you will find it hard to get a server with cpanel aswell.. i think you need to raise your budget or lower your standards (especially if you feel you need good support)

Why not try in the Hosting Request section. I am sure you have some guys bidding the price down.
But the things you have listed there is ok for a start. However, now is time for that business plan ;)

Right... your very first post is pushing for some site. That's suspicious isn't it
