View Full Version : Name.com - terrible experience
RDOSTI 09-30-2009, 02:20 AM I would like to warn and alert you all about name.com domain registrar.
I placed an order for a domain and it rejected 6 times using my credit card. Last night I found out that my card company has billed me 138$ for a year/domain. I was shocked. I called the company on its supposed work-hour help line (night for me is day time in USA). I ended up getting no one.
I placed another call today, same issue (though its night time there now).
I ordered the same domain from another company later, and they are working to get me the domain that I need. My surprise is I received many rejection emails from name.com on my orders yet they had the guts or indecency to bill me.
I logged in to my account at name.com and found that the domain is still in the "Shopping Cart" and not processed or even in-processing. This is crazy.
I will update this thread if there is any outcome from the dispute I have raised (in terms of sending both CEO as well as support team email/s). I have asked for a reversal of charge. Hopefully they do that, otherwise I think I'll be having a terrible week ahead (and them too).
I hope things get sorted though. Has anyone used name.com ( I used the search but got nothing).
I hope I wasnt scammed today. All I know is domainsite.com uses name.com - or atleast thats what the support at domainsite said. Can you believe that too - when I called domainsite.com they told me name.com owns them or is part of their company and asked me to order at double charge there....see what I landed into ..and beware.

as sure there support is very very bad, compared to namecheap so better have your domain in namecheap for peace of mind
eric_pu 09-30-2009, 04:12 AM Sorry to hear that.
Godaddy and Namecheap is mostly recommended when you register a domain. And they really doing fine on a reasonable price.
Vinayak_Sharma 09-30-2009, 09:56 AM RDOSTI, how much you tried saving by going to name.com instead of a stable reputed registrar.
On a second thought, it could be an error so see what the outcome is.
peter_anderson 09-30-2009, 11:30 AM Their order system can be buggy. I tried to purchase a domain, but before they charged me, it was purchased by someone else. They then charged my PayPal and told me that the domain was successfully renewed (despite being a new-reg) and I could access it in my CP (despite it being elsewhere).
Got it sorted eventually.

Who knows maybe there was some credit card related issue.
But this is more proof of the reason why I have all of my domains purchased on a registrar I trust even if they are a bit more expensive. I could easily purchase domains at half the price elsewhere, but for convenience and security's sake I choose not to.

Errr, name.com is a stable and reputed registrar. They've been around a long time and I've never had issues with them. Never. Perhaps the OP was impatient and didn't wait until the card was charged correctly, i.e. hit the submit several times.
All I can say is that name.com has been around since 2003 and I have never had any problem with them. Never. And I've been with godaddy, namecheap and the (almost) original registrar, Network Solutions. And I will not go with anyone else but name.com.
RDOSTI 09-30-2009, 01:49 PM Just spoke to Scott. Working on resolution. It seems I got charged but their system shows no charge (all void). Bank of America has deducted my funds but put the transaction on pending. They show no records of acceptance. We're working on a solution. I need to update them if the transaction goes past pending. As of now BOA have told me that I was charged, so lets see. I emailed them (Scott/Name) the BOA transaction sheet (online banking). I have been provided a personal cell number for contacting Scott. Hopefully things get right and the transaction reversed.
Will update this thread no doubt - with good or bad. Since I got charged in the first place, something sure is wrong...and for the last posters reply... just one click...
Peter seemed to have issues as well but got it sorted. Hopefully my luck prevails.
RDOSTI 09-30-2009, 04:38 PM added update...name.com has offered to provide me the domain renewal at the same rate as i got from it's sister concern. i have paid using paypal.
However my previously charged funds are still stuck. Will wait for an update and let you all know.
PS - for anyone wondering why I still paid again using paypal after the issues - the PREMIUM domain im looking for was at the best price and I did have a good experience with sister company domainsite.
VPSGuys 09-30-2009, 04:45 PM I have many domains with Name.com and Never had a problem either. But I am sorry you had a hard time.
I have used godaddy and namecheap.com but they are slow.
Godaddys Control Panel is so Slow for me, I hate it.
Namecheap when you change the nameservers it takes forever to change on my end even using opendns so most of my names are at Name.com where when I change them they tske like 10-15 mins, and the control panel is like a click through. So Easy.
I will stand behind name.com for as long as they are good.
donbiz 09-30-2009, 07:03 PM Yeah I've registered a lot of domains with Name.com and have never had any problems with them. Sorry to hear that this billing error occurred but sounds like Name.com will be able to resolve it.
For credit card transactions there is always a risk that they may not go through. So it is better to use a registrar who accepts deposits, if you register many domains.
Name.com are a reputable registrar. I'm sure they will sort things out as best they can. But if they haven't been paid but BoA have charged you, it seems like your complaint is more with BoA than Name.com. You need to get Name.com talking to BoA to inform them they haven't been paid for those transactions. I personally pay for my transactions with Name.com via PayPal, without any problems. Their checkout is extremely quick.
Mike - Limestone 09-30-2009, 10:06 PM Do you know if the transactions were actual purchase transactions or simply pre-authorizations?

vnttn 10-01-2009, 01:04 AM That's pity for you. I have placed many orders at name.com for two years. But no problem has happened.
DakNet 10-02-2009, 05:56 PM I've had no problems with Name.com and I have about 20 domains with them
RDOSTI 10-07-2009, 01:04 PM Update: Bank of America cancelled the transaction. The problem ends here. I have informed name.com that I am okay. I have asked them to check their billing system.
I also as mentioned earlier renewed my domain at a discount offered by them (for this year). I thank them for that.
