Has anyone used them, can you explain in 'Lamens' terms how they work, pros and cons?

Thanks

Why not just use paypal? I've been using it since 2001 or so and never come across any problem with them. Just great

Payleap is similar to other payment gateways in that you sign up for a payment gateway account which allows you to accept transactions in various formats such as point-of-sale (retail), manual entry via a secure website provided by the payment gateway known as a virtual terminal, mobile, and via the web. There are many websites which describe this process in further detail.

I switched over to Payleap about a year ago for several reasons.

I was sick of dealing with multiple companies all of the time. Payleap offers your payment gateway account and your merchant account. Most other payment gateways provide you with a list of resellers that offer merchant accounts and send you on your way to the unknown. -or there is PayPal which just has really high fees in my opinion..

I needed an option to offer gift cards in my store (this is really hard to find).

The customer service with my previous provider was terrible. If I have any questions whether it be billing or really technical they have someone to answer my question.

My rates after switching to Payleap are considerably lower now as well which is really important in this economy.

I am sure you were able to find this but here are a few handy links:
http://www.payleap.com
http://www.payleap.com/merchants.html - offers a competitor analysis and general merchant information

I also follow the blog on their website to see what’s new:
http://www.payleap.com/news/credit-card-processing-understanding-the-steps/

I really haven’t encountered any cons so far with Payleap. Actually pretty refreshing!

Thank you for the response. I had never heard of them before it was suggested for the cart I use.

Signed up with PayLeap, very easy process. It is a 3 people show, mom and pop shop.

2 weeks after processing my account is turned over to risk management. PayLeap will not speak to me, refer me to First Data! First Data are crooks! Look up their reviews on RipOffReport. They stole over 5K of my money and did not return it. Going back to my previous merchant.

RE: PayLeap will not speak to me, refer me to First Data! First Data are crooks!

First Data is a payment processor -- they are not a bank, merchants service provier or ISO. I've never heard of them holding money or stopping payments and I don't believe they have the authority to do so. Now I have seen funds held up due to a setup/configuration issues and PayLeap may be referring you to them for an account setup issue -- although if PayLeap's support is so good, they should be doing this for you or conferencing you in.

I've never heard of PayLeap but their site does say they are an ISO for Wells Fargo Bank. If anyone is holding your money, it would be Wells Fargo as the bank or PayLeap as the ISO.

I meant First Data Merchant Services. PayLeap is the middleman (the saleman) who set me up.

My point to everyone - DO NOT USE PayLeap or InterSpire gateway, Beware. They have poor support and send you to call the merchant services yourself. They treat merchants as if we are crooks when we are just doing legitimate business.

Just because PayPal is the widest used gateway does by no way mean its the best, or suitable for everyone. Each merchant has their own needs and for some PayPal just doesnt cut it, personally I am looking into getting away from them

re: joeblanck

PayLeap is the Payment Gateway. First Data is the Processor. Interspire is the Shopping Cart that uses the PayLeap Payment Gateway.

If your account is flagged by your merchant bank risk department, the Payment Gateway, the Processor, and the Shopping Cart have no control of this matter. In fact, the merchant bank does not disclose many details as to why your merchant bank account is being reviewed by the bank risk department.

This relationship is between you and the bank.

If this was a regular retail store, you wouldn’t expect the company that makes your card swiping machine to contact your bank would you?

I would suggest doing some research regarding ecommerce and payment processing before accusing companies of fraud as that is a very strong accusation.

The issue is between you and your bank but you are blaming everyone else.

PayLeap is the Payment Gateway...PayLeap's web site does say they are an ISO for Wells Fargo so they have a little more control than a bank/processor neutral gateway. If it's a risk issue, the bank and any ISO's in the mix are all required to do their own risk management. This is a fine example of how muddy the payments industry waters are.

Contact Wells Fargo and contact PayLeap. Most likely there are two (maybe three) sides to this story and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

In a standard ecommerce scenario an ISO/MSP is a company used by banks to develop new merchant relationships on behalf of the bank. This essentially makes them a reseller but in no way gives them the ability to control the merchants risk. This is managed directly by the merchants bank.

ISO's are in the risk mix but the level of risk managment depends on the ISO's relationship with the bank. Some banks offload virtually all the risk management to the ISO whereas others use the ISO only as a sales arm like you describe, and many use a combined mode that can overlap. I have no idea PayLeap's level of risk management. My only point was that they may be the road block in this case and you can't completely exclude them just because their gateway services are being used -- they are an ISO as well.

Joe I also saw your post on the getsatisfaction website. Joe writes:

"I have had huge problems with PayLeap and Interspire Secure Gateway. PayLeap is a 2 man show. If you need anything from them they will refer you to speak to First data directly. No follow up, no email response. Support is the worst. You decide. Best merchant services is merchantwarehouse of flagship. Look them up on top ten website they have the best reviews..."

Paid bloggers hired by companies to discredit other companies and promote there own is just pathetic. Nice name dropping of Merchant Warehouse. -disgusting

Wow god catch fivedesigners. So we can agree to discredit joeblanck entry to the thread. As for me I've not heard of PayLeap but there are hundreds of merchant account providers out there. What do the people who suggested it to you say?

I can't believe some of the slimy marketing tactics companies are using! Merchant Warehouse should be ashamed. I have been with PayLeap for a while now, no issues. Actually, when I call them I get a human on the phone!

Right. That is why Merchant Warehouse and Flagship have been voted the top 2 merchant services by topten.com

PayLeap is terrible. Easy to set up but once you do if they sign you up with First Data Services you are doomed. Make sure to check the app to see who they sign you up with.
