search engines such as google work on mainly 2 things. Number of ppl who link to you, and words within the site. Not hidden keywords.

Some suggestions:
Pay per click listings
Web hosting directories
Webmaster sites
Web dev sites

Pay per click search engines and listings is probably the best way to go in the short terms as it can be implemented fairly quickly.

You should also submit your hosting site to all major search engines

Not trying to degrade your suggestion, but now that there are over a couple hundred thousand hosts on the search engine, there is absolutely no way you'll be able to reach the top few pages on the more popular engines. Now if you're talking about Overture, or some of the other PPC engines, all that matters is the budget your willing to reserve. :D

Be aware that PPC can be expensive through the popular PPC providers like Overture for terms such as 'web hosting'.

ohh... I it's not worth spending on 'web hosting' & 'hosting' on PPC's nowadays.... word of mouth is the best one. Offer a good service and support - you will see how effective it is :)
