as you can see, some people are quite strongly against a chat room, while others would love it, i personally feel a chat room could ruin the general atmosphere of WHT, alot of tension can build up in chat rooms and they require 24/7 moderation for abusive members.

I was in favour of a chat room until i got the members opinions on it.

I think the text would be scrolling by too quickly to have a decent conversation ;)

Just look how many people are on the forum at such late hours of the night!

well one chat room maybe over kill , but if we had several related to the forums here on the site , it might work out . As far as it not working , i dont see why it wouldnt .

i'd personally be for it, but it aint up to me.
Long as it was IRC based, not one of those other 3rd party programs..

Arguments against it:

1) no moderation
2) less posts on WHT
3) $$$: RS needs more $$$ so we'd probably end up seeing more ads

I agree that there could be an IRC-based chat room. It can easily be moderated, just as the hundreds of moderated chat rooms.

There may be a slightly less post count if a chat room was established, but what is the purpose of WHT? Isn't it to educate and inform those needing information? A chat room would be a quick and easy way to redirect someone to information fast. :cool:

Reasonable varies depending on who you talk to. IMO, what we have now is the limit. I don't like ads that intrude on my browsing experience.

Some site's give out free Chatroom scripts! I doubt you would want that though?

what about a compuserve hosted chatroom ?

just make an IRC based room. If people want to connect, they can use an IRC client.

If demand is high enough, there are plenty of good Java IRC applets around, but its not neccessary
