I just set the primary and secondary name servers up with my domain. Regards, -Dan achost_ca 11-15-2002, 07:56 PM yep. our sites share the same space as the other sites we host, makes it easier for organization, and so if we ever have a new tech come onboard, he isnt totally puzzled why some are in this directory and not where the rest are kinda of thing. AH-Tina 11-15-2002, 08:46 PM You should have your site on a dedicated server of its own. Don't mix it with your shared hosting accounts. JonL 11-15-2002, 08:49 PM AffordableHost, I agree but some people can't afford that ;) ImLagging 11-15-2002, 09:59 PM regardless of whether or not you have your server on the same machine as your customers or on a different machine that you own/manage, you should host it yourself instead of having a different host do it for you. some of the more demanding customers may not look at you favorably if you hosted your own site with a "competitor". TheTech 12-04-2002, 09:04 AM It's better to have your site hosted on the same with your shared accounts. If someone tries to check your WHOIS, or pings your IP and they get a fast response, but when they get their account up, the speeds are slow, that can be very misleading. Mexico Joe 12-04-2002, 09:09 AM I think it'd be kind of lame if you made yourself out to be a big-time hosting company then had your company site hosted with Burlee or someone. jameso 12-04-2002, 12:48 PM I think it's definitely a must to host your own site on your own servers. Ideally it should be located in a data centre other than that of where your clients are hosted. This way, if their sites are down, then your site will still be online, so they are still able to receive technical support. TQ Mark 12-04-2002, 12:57 PM I host my site and wouldn't take a host seriously if they didn't. Someone mentioned the possible of a major catastrophe at your data center. If that happens, I have a list (hardcopy) of all of my customers' contact information so I can notify them. I also have additional offsite DNS servers authoritative for my domain so I can bring my site up quickly on another server at home or with borrowed space in another data center. hbouma 12-04-2002, 10:32 PM Sorry, but I can't resist.... I can see the hosting ads now... DigiCrime 12-04-2002, 11:18 PM My preference is to host my site on my own server, something seperate from my customers/clients. Oganization is good when it comes to having them all on one site, but its my preference to have a seperate server. Dont ask me why! :stickout: ServerSonic 12-04-2002, 11:20 PM Of course host your own site. However I think it is a good idea to setup a support system offsite so in case of emergency your customers can still access important information and you can keep them updated. |
