Can 1 cpanel server handle thousands of small accounts? (ie 3000+) with no email support. How well would it perform?

What happens if they use all the bandwidth? 3000 x 2 = a lot.

3000 accounts - i doubt one server could handle say 3000 requests to access the control panel / ftp at the same time - and 3000 web requests per second i think is a bit optimistic...

Why do you need to put so many sites on one server?

They won't and if they do then its ad supported and hopefully I can be a good enough of a marketer to pay for the transfer.

A Sun E450 can handle 4000 + accounts without issue.

Would have helped if batcavenet posted specs then we could comment better

i dont think that would cut it to be honest 3000 accounts is quite alot of sites. Will they all be static ip PHP / MySQL / Perl etc

You will really need a backup solution (major) for this - what if the server goes down ----3000 sites, all down!

I did have 3000 running on freebsd before :) I'm just wondering how much of a memory hog cpanel would be..

Maybe I might be stuck with custom programming and tuning- but cpanel provides quite a few nice features

cpanel does provide alot of nice features - but at a cost to the resources. You may be better doing what you have done in the past if it worked effectively
