Ok. I'm not looking for your typical request where people ask to recieve an email, page, etc when a service goes down.

I am just wondering if there is any software out there that will basically do realtime monitoring of my server(s). For example, when I'm sitting here working, I have a laptop on the side running an SSH connection monitoring "top". While I occasionally check other stats as well.

But I was wondering if there was any software that condensed the vital stats into a small program/window that I could easily keep running to monitor the server that way.

Any ideas?

SIM from www.r-fx.net will create a log every so minutes of which services are running and which services are down. It will also restart any downed servers ;)

This application was formerly named NOCOL. Many NOCs use this to monitor their networking equipment.

Check out Nagios (http://www.nagios.org/) (formerly Net Saint).

I believe Nagios sends email. I have no experience with it but that is what I have read; correct me if I am wrong :)
