Hey guys,

We're about to pickup a new SSL cert from Thawte and were wondering if anyone has noticed a direct increase in sales due to Extended Validation?

My experience has been that users really don't care about the certificate, as long as the connection is secure (ie "the little lock in the corner" as many of them call it). For all they know it could be 8bit encryption.

Pretty much same feelings here...

I agree, it is not so important.

I agree. Not important, as long as the lock icon is "closed" and the URL shows "https".

Color coded lock in the browser are just a gimmick, and 99% of the non-technical people I work with don't have a clue what any colors mean.

Technically, as long as the cert is at least 128bit encryption.. it's pretty secure. Any other "features" (insurance, colors, spinning monkey, etc are just gimmicks to make the website owner feel better.

Ask yourself if you would continue to purchase from ebay/paypal/amazon/whatever if they DID NOT have a green lock, but only had a basic rapidssl.com 128bit $9.95 certificate. If the answer is yes.. then you've answered your own question.

I was going to buy one from GoDaddy for $200 / Year but I ended up getting a refund due to the fact you can only use it in United States.

It's just another product that makes you look more "legit" which in the end I think will convert a few sales for you. If you think about it you are only paying $15 / Month and if you run a business that makes money t hat isn't anything :)

+ it looks cool.

I personally feel more confident buying from merchants with Extended Validation. :P It could be completely illogical on my part, though.
