Is it a branch of enom or what?

NameCheap is an Enom reseller.

They are an accredited icann registrar now but the switch to their own name has taken far longer than expected. I'm really wondering when it will happen and new domains will go under their name.

Yes, I think they are one of the largest enom resellers?

It's too bad to hear about their delay to move to their own platform.. I wonder what is the story behind that. I believe Matt Heaton from hostmonster/bluehost is involved in the company? (namecheap, not enom.)

I recently looked into all the usual suspects for a good registrar. I wanted free privacy guard and did not want to be inundated with emails and spam. I also wanted to find someone who did not put advertising on my parked pages, who offered free URL forwarding and the rest. I checked out namecheap but they fell short (IIRC they do advertise on parked pages, but I might be mistaken as I looked at so many). IAC I wasn't completely satisfied, though they came close. Then I saw Internet.bs (bs = Bahamas) mentioned here and that ended my search. They blow all other registrars out of the water AFAIC. You might give them a look-see. There is also a thread on them here. Good luck with your search!

I've never had a problem with namecheap and have used them for registration, privacy, and dns hosting. They are very good from my experience.

I've used Name Cheap before. Unless you are very experienced in what you are doing and managing with domains, I do not recommend them due to the fact from my experience i do not think their client panel is very User Friendly, Especially when i was trying to find the DNS Management to set Custom Name Servers.

Right. That was the other reason I didn't go with namecheap. With Internet.bs, private WHOIS is free every year.
