I have a Hosting Controller (www.hostingcontroller.com) license for sale.

Last used: about a month back.
Type: lifetime unlimited license. control panel works on/supports win2003, asp, asp.net, php, mysql, sql server. Not tested with win2008, though they claim it'll work.

No offense, but I'll have to pay another $249 to upgrade this to HC8. So the total cost will be $449 taking your minimum as the base. One can get HC8 direct from the Company with a 15% discount at $455. No discount on upgrade prices. That leaves both of us between the Devil and the deep sea. True. However am ready to negotiate. Note that even with the 15% discount you're looking at more than $449.

Fyi, HC7 is quite complete - HC8 mainly adds more support for new win2k8 features, and minor stuff extra.

Also, the click-to-install package is inbuilt in this, while in hc8 it's separate - you need to buy the clicktoinstall package separately for hc8.

If you have the time please read my replies in showthread.php?p=6389730 to the post "Your thoughts on DirectAdmin", wherein I have explained my needs and constraints. I was considering DirectAdmin, but am now more inclined to consider HC8. I should like you to read that thread so that you know the special circumstances. In view of what I have stated in the other thread, I may start with HC7 and upgrade to HC8 as may be required. Even so, I would have preferred a Linux License to a Windows one, as most of the sites will be free and a Linux server would certainly be cheaper than a windows server. Please advise what is the lowest offer you can consider for your HC7 (I presume it is 7C). How are HC licenses transferred? Do Licenses need to be verified and approved for transfer by WHT/HC? Will the License be in my name then? I just saw this on HC Website:

While the license information from HC's end remains non-transferable, the key at this time is mine, and to do with a I wish. I'd rather have it sold at a discount earning revenue for someone else than letting it rot away in my mailbox.

Note that the license key can only be used on one server at a time; so if you activate with a given key no one else can use the same on a different server.

I dont understand what sites you're going to get 'free' on a linux server - and windows/linux vpss are about the same cost most places as of today.

I guess this is only a choice for someone who's stepping into the hosting business and needs a mechanism to control their server.

You misunderstood, I am going to host websites for free as I had explained in the other thread. Yes, this would be a good choice as a comprehensive server control panel coming at a throwaway price in this case. I did not mean to criticise you and apologise if I have unwittingly done so. You'd come off better with a custom control panel for free hosting. Get a good developer and have the control panel made - the ready made ones may be good but do not support the features you'd need in free hosting. HC7/8 is not a choice for you.

I run a bunch of free hosting websites (4 at last count) and they're all on custom control panels. Saves me a lot of trouble. If you find this of interest we can carry on the discussion elsewhere.

Thank you, I too was in a quandary, unable to decide which control panel would suit -- cPanel (atrociously expensive), HC8 (good but requires a minimum of 2 servers even if you wanted to run ONLY Linux), DirectAdmin (security vulnerability?), and the free HyperVM+Kloxo (infirmities widely reported). But a good developer will charge more than the cost of the readymade panels. Could you throw more light on this interesting possibility? Thanks. Raman

I was looking at ISPManager Pro, and it beats (in my opinion, for what it is worth) HC, DA, Plesk and cPanel hollow on all counts. But for typos and grammatical mistakes, it is comprehensive in scope and wonderfully flexible. What do you think? It is priced at Euro 225, reasonable, but too high for my needs.
