View Full Version : Dedicated Server Help
AsadMoeen 09-12-2009, 02:47 AM Hello.
I basically run game servers.
So I want a smooth network connection.
I can pay a maximum of $100 per month.
I want about 2-4 GB Ram.
Dual or Quad Core CPU . Quad would be more good.
About 50 GB Hard Disk would be enough.
And now for the network, So I want at least 100 MBPS network.
And Network should be dedicated not shared because I have had a lot of problems with Shared 100 mb networks which have caused my Game Servers to Lag a lot. So that's why I want a dedicated Network.
And about the Location.
So for low ping to Europians in the US, I want my Server somewhere in New York or Scranton.
cristibighea 09-12-2009, 02:49 AM You may want to separate servers, to have one in the US closer to the center of the country and one in Europe so both sides will get decent pings. Of course, it depends how much latency dependant your games are, though most require under 100ms.
AsadMoeen 09-12-2009, 03:01 AM Yea I only want in New York or Scranton.
Not in Europe.
Basically we got more people in USA .
So Europians get about 85-90 ping in NewYork and Scranton
XFactorServers 09-12-2009, 03:19 AM You should be fine with New York City as that is a great location for worldwide.
Although you will not find a premium network with a $100 budget in New York City as it's one of the most expensive locations , although if you bump your budget up $25-$50 you shouldn't have a problem finding a nice Dual Core box with 4GB.
MattS 09-12-2009, 03:39 AM Does it have to be in New York or would New Jersey be an option?
w4Net 09-12-2009, 03:41 AM 100Mbps un-metered dedicated links can run into about $350/m by them selves.

I don't think he is asking for that mate :)
w4Net 09-12-2009, 03:51 AM I Think so,
" And Network should be dedicated not shared because I have had a lot of problems with Shared 100 mb networks which have caused my Game Servers to Lag a lot. So that's why I want a dedicated Network. "
Sounds to me like he wants a 100Mbps dedicated link because he doesn't like or has had issues with 100Mbps shared networks.
WSHM-Demetris 09-12-2009, 04:11 AM You may have trouble finding a dedicated 100MB line for around 100 bucks per month, that doesn't include the server itself. You may need to raise your budget a bit in order to get the services that you require. At any rate, best of luck in your search :)
AsadMoeen 09-12-2009, 04:30 AM Location can be anything like I said.
But it should just be on East Coast.
Like Scranton, New Jersey and New York are fine.
And about the Network.
So basically I have been using VPS servers with shared 100 mbps networks on main physical nodes. Hardly there are 5-6 VPS companies which guarantee a minimum bandwidth rate on VPS servers so the Game Servers are not affected .
Like many companies have 100 MBPS shared networks.
I checked if they guarantee a minimum bandwidth speed.
I have had problems with 80% of the companies regarding network as I run game servers. So the servers have lagged a lot with fluctuating pings of people. And for me, it occurs when people on the other VPS ( Same Node ) use the network harshly or at full speeds because Game servers hardly use anything to upload/ download. They just need a constant unaffected bandwidth rate . That's why I searched for 1 VPS where they can provide a minimum guaranteed bandwidth like 10 mbps which can burst to 100 mbps depending upon Load. That would have been fine.
Specially game servers Lag due to this .
Just like I got 10 MB internet at my home.
As game servers hardly use anything to upload/download data, so If I start a download with it, it will give me good speed for the download but of course people playing on my server would lag.
That's why I am looking for Dedicated Server now.
So my game servers can run smooth. I don't know really about the Networks.
Maybe 10 mbps can also work fine but that's what I am here for.
I just want such kind of network where pings of people do not fluctuate in my game server and they play as smooth as it can be.
I do not know if Dedicated bandwidth would be the appropriate word for it.
As its too expensive but I have seen people running there servers on Dedicated Boxes without any problems.
You can say that I can accept anything for my server but the Game Servers just should not lag in any case. I also see some servers even with 1 gbps connections.
So any suggestions or offers there ?
AsadMoeen 09-12-2009, 01:54 PM So that's what I basically want.
Please reply
AsadMoeen 09-13-2009, 02:35 AM Reply needed lol
w4Net 09-13-2009, 02:40 AM It's pretty clear. You are not going to find a dedicated 100Mbps link for $100.
AsadMoeen 09-13-2009, 02:44 AM But I see many upgrades with Dedicated Servers.
Some people even run servers and host game servers to others at dedicated boxes . Same is what I want to do.
Some companies have it.
Like $10 for upgrading from 10 mbps to 100 mbps.
Other replies needed.
PowerDot 09-13-2009, 02:51 AM Take a look into the Dedicated Advertising Forum my friend.

I think you mean you need ea 100mbps port... because you will NEVER find 100mbps in bw for $100...

Yes you can upgrade from a 10Mbps link to a 100Mbps link however they are still not dedicated links, they are shared.
A dedicated link means they are pulling the link directly from the fiber link provider and it is your and you are paying for it each month and will not be shared with any other servers on that link.
AsadMoeen 09-13-2009, 03:18 AM Hmmm.
When I had VPS servers.
I complaint the company about Lag and Ping Fluctuating issues on Game Servers. They said that its shared so we cannot guarantee anything that's why you should look for a Dedicated one.
But if both have shared connections then it means my Game Servers at Dedicated Servers will also lag.
AsadMoeen 09-13-2009, 03:41 AM And what would you say about it,
For how much will we be able to find a Dedicated 100 Mbps Network.
Remember its not just the New York.
I can chose locations in the East Coast like Scranton P.A etc.
