View Full Version : Business Launches in a short 1.5 months
cubision 11-14-2002, 06:00 PM Hello all,
This is my new login, some of you knew me as godsmoke (the 16 year old web host who "breaks all of the rules")
Anyway, I have postponed the official opening of my business until January 1st.
Cubision is the name of the hosting company, and the business plan is actually being revised to reflect new plans. Although the website is not at all up, and it wont be until January 1st, I hope to enter the web hosting business with a tad of luck, and hopefully my careful planning and knowledge will help me through this journey.

JeremyV 11-15-2002, 12:08 AM If anything this could have been mentioned in the lounge as casual discussion.
Chill out, he's excited. Hes in the runing a hosting biz forum, the forum for web hosts - not customers. if he spammed in one of the main user forums i would also be mad. hes starting a biz, lets all welcome a new competitor and get on with our lives :)
Steven.C 11-15-2002, 12:26 AM welcome...
Synthetic 11-15-2002, 12:50 AM The rules apply to this forum as well.
I would have no problem with his post if he came by asking for comments or suggestions.
However, I don't think everyone on this board would appreciate having each person about to launch a new business make an announcement on this forum.

JeremyV 11-15-2002, 12:07 PM Not if the compeditor sucks :D
Krellen 11-15-2002, 12:23 PM Welcome... and good luck!
cubision 11-15-2002, 05:15 PM Well thank you for your welcome ... I actually meant to ask a question, whether you believe me or not ... I had to run, and I pressed submit for one reason or another.
Anyway: I was going to ask what linux distro are you (those that are running linux) using ... and I would appreciate only answers from those NOT using RedHat ... as I have my opinions about it, and don't want to start an argument ... so, lets keep this civil. :)
EDIT: I may eventually make a poll thread out of this, if enough people respond ... thanks!
rusko 11-15-2002, 06:14 PM debian seems a good choice, since they have a relatively workable pkg mgmt system. im going to try gentoo out soon also.
cubision 11-15-2002, 06:18 PM I love debian ... but ... uh ... gentoo is NOT stable, and it certainly isn't ready for server-level operation.
neonlexx 11-15-2002, 06:18 PM I always thought OpenBSD would make a good hosting OS...except for the fact you need to recompile for security patches....
Also i was looking at the picture you posted here
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=610871
thats an ADSL modem at the top. Just figured i'd tell ya that.
cubision 11-15-2002, 06:23 PM uhh .... first ... LINUX ... but thanks.
Also, openbsd isn't speedy ... openbsd is great for firewalls, but for servers, if you plan to use a bas ... go with freebsd
neonlexx 11-15-2002, 06:28 PM i was just throwing an opinon out there.....and are you still hosting off DSL?
cubision 11-15-2002, 06:34 PM Well, as I said ... I am just officially opening my business January 1st.
I have been hosting the existing clients I had from word of mouth off the DSL.
neonlexx 11-15-2002, 06:39 PM is that ADSL or SDSL? the picture you posted had an ADSL modem.
cubision 11-15-2002, 06:43 PM Yeah, that is my home network ... separate from my business network, the modem I have for that is sitting in the back of the rack, you can't see it from that view.
