View Full Version : You ever see this?

I just tried FTP'ing updated versions of some files. But I got this error:

425 Data connection error: No space left on device

Anyone ever seen that? All it's succeeded in doing is wiping my original files, but not replace them with my updated files of the same name.

I'm supposed to have about 30megs spare on the account.

ISP or host issue?

Thanks,

Brian

Probably host issue....do you still get that error after your original files are removed?

This can also be caused by running out of quota on your personal account. Or the disk/partition could be full.

Yeah, its probally:

1. You have too much stuff on the server.
2. OVERSELLING BLOWS, DOESN'T IT?

Yes - and the original files no longer exist, but the replacements refuse to FTP.

Which is annoying because they are essential homepage files [think, frames].

If it's a host issue what on earth could it be??

Thoughts are much appreciated.

Hard drive is full or partition is full. No space left for the files.

Sorry - had to edit - I've got enough space left [30 megs].

You may have space left on your account, however the server's hard drive is full.

Hm...that was quick-ish. FTP works fine now.

Aha ok , .. sometimes open relays or badly programmed CGI fills the server HD faster then the helpdesk can discover it ;)

Sometimes errors like that actually means something else... I remember an error listed like that in one ftp-software and a different message in another version of ftp-software.

Sorry... don't remember the actual problem, but it had something to do with the host and the accounts, not space...

Sounds to me like the host is overselling on the server, hence HDD filling up while users still have quota space to use.

Definitely means the HD is full. Saw it once on one of our new boxes that got hit by the chunked data vulnerabilty a few months back before the advisory even came out. Just had to dump Apache's temp dirs and all was ok.
