I've heard a little about Fantastico - easy auto-install of scripts etc. However there seems to be some question about how "auto" the auto-install actually is. Some reports say that it is necessary for users to CHMOD before the auto-install is workable. Some reports also suggest that scripts currently being used might have security loopholes due to not using the most up-to-date versions.
So - is Fantastico the answer to script installation for the dummy or is it a potential hazard?

Have it installed here, select a script, choose a password, click submit and your done :)

Sounds Fantastic!
Even though we know Darth is easily amused.
:D
I have it installed and have used it from time to time. Each time I've used it, current versions have been installed. I've never had to CHMOD any files to get things working. I've never had a support question about actually using fantastico, or someone needing help using it - most of the questions come after the install, about how to actually use the application it installs.

We installed it last night. All the auto-installers run without a hitch (as long as there's sufficient disk space :)). Great product, and well received by clients.

I have had the same experience as Editor and Neil. Never had to chmod anything.

I've used it a bit..
Some installers did not work for me, and some of the programs were one or two releases out of date.

I have Fantastico on 2 servers, they work great. Updates are provided from time to time ( new program release, bug ... etc.). Overall, I think it's a great product!:)
