I just wonder, what is the number of abuse reports you receive from Datacenter every month if you are running a shared hosting service includes reseller, vps as well?

The-Pixel 09-03-2009, 12:19 AM What are the abuse reports about? Ideally you wouldn't want to receive any abuse tickets from your data center if your on shared, reseller or VPS. UnderHost 09-03-2009, 12:20 AM Quite a lot, around 10/15 maybe more sometime. Cyrus255 09-03-2009, 12:25 AM I just wonder, what is the number of abuse reports you receive from Datacenter every month if you are running a shared hosting service includes reseller, vps as well? Depends who you're selling your hosting services to. That's half the battle of running a good web hosting business is getting good customers. How many customers do you have? The ratio of customers to reports is more important than any one specific magic number. AquariusStorage 09-03-2009, 12:31 AM With shared/reseller hosting, we only receive about 3-4 per month. The bad boy was VPS hosting. I don't see how the 7$ VPS providers accomplish selling VPS's at such a low rate. Their abuse departments must be fully staffed 24/7. The cheaper you sell your VPS's, the more not so much kind of customer you want to attract to your business seem to appear. Spam, spam, spam, run nasty processes to try to bring down the node (on purpose?) spam spam, hack, host bad things, pirate, etc. In our experience, the amount of abuse reports is dependent on your pricing. Seems as if lower prices attracts a rather large amount of people from the bad crowd. We raised our prices and abuse reports went down. It was a nice trade off. Dave - Just199 09-03-2009, 12:32 AM I get roughly 4/year and usually they are all right around the start of summer. dbbrock1 09-03-2009, 01:02 AM It also depends on who you host with. I know ThePlanet is nuts about abuse complaints. However, my current datacenter hardly ever contacts me for abuse complaints. avalony 09-03-2009, 01:02 AM I get roughly about 4 a month? I feel that this amount is quite high despite my efforts to curtail them. Sometimes I would do a mobile call to verify their name and order. I am wondering if there are any fraud detection procedures that I can adopt at minimal cost? JLHC 09-03-2009, 01:02 AM Once in a few months. ;) easygameservers 09-03-2009, 01:04 AM I get roughly about 4 a month? I feel that this amount is quite high despite my efforts to curtail them. Sometimes I would do a mobile call to verify their name and order. I am wondering if there are any fraud detection procedures that I can adopt at minimal cost? Look up MaxMind. They have a credit card fraud detection service that I am planning on using for my own site. It can even call customers after an order is placed to make sure it is actually them. mellow-h 09-03-2009, 03:41 AM What are the abuse reports about? Ideally you wouldn't want to receive any abuse tickets from your data center if your on shared, reseller or VPS. Abuse reports like Phishing, DMCA, Malware complaints. It depends on how big you are, though, I am trying to speculate how many are received by the WHT members, their own Hosting business should allow me to speculate how big he is as well :) Thanks for all the replies. GarrettReardon 09-03-2009, 04:59 AM I have only had one abuse problem, and it didn't end with an email, it ended with the FBI taking the server from the datacenter and using it in court against the people. donbiz 09-03-2009, 05:01 AM Used to receive a good bit but now we're only getting about 1-3 every few months so not bad imo. Andreyfidrya 09-03-2009, 08:05 AM This question depends on the datacenter. There are good and bad datacenters, so I find it difficult to answer this question. |
