Hi there. Just to avoid any problems upfront, im perfectly happy with my host, and don't plan on changing. =)

So, i've noticed my site is not accessable sometimes. This causes my eBay auction images to be broken. When I can't access the site, i'll visit a website that has links to other websites around the U.S. This lets me ping/traceroute from different locations. Some locations can't access the site, such as Belgim, Georgia, and RackSpace - No ping responce. I've contacted my host about this and am awaiting a reply. So my question is what is the very best thing to use/do when your site is not accessible by you? Any links or relitive info would be very helpful. I know about VisualRoute, but thats just a test from one place (I think). Shouldn't I run good multi-type test on it? :confused:

It happens... it could be anywhere along the route including your ISP that's causing it. The only way to minimize the sites actual downtime is to go with a provider who may be a little more expensive, but provides redundant connections and a SLA, but this probably isn't your problem, as it doesn't look like your hoster.. This still won't help with your ISPs routing, but will make sure the site is available for the majority of internet users. But again, if there is a problem on one hop, it may only affect a portion as you've witnessed. What should you do? Grab a cup of coffee and spend some time with the family, knowing that there isn't anything you can do about it. :)

(1). Does your host have a procedure for dealing with and notifying you of server outages?? If they don't, they should have. You should receive some kind of notification that your server is experiencing issues and they're working on it etc...

(2). Check to make sure that your ISP is not having issues. It's not like anything can go wrong from the datacenter to your ISP. :D Access http://alertra.com and use their "Spot Check" in the top right corner. This will check your domain from 4 locations etc. If the server is toast, then it will let you know.

You can also run tracerts etc. Heaps to do. :)

yes, you can check to see where it is available from and where it isn't...but, you can't actually DO anything about it :dgrin: And your provider will usually just say that the site is up and the issue is with someone else on the way in.....

Go here and they will monitor your sites server. Then you can see if the server is failing. Sometimes it is the to good to be true deal that you gets you these problems. You have to way your options.. If I made money on if someone see's my photo I would consider maybe looking for a new host. It is strictly business ;)

So many places for so many things to go wrong. Funny, I just checked a few sites on alertra.....first I checked a site in Atlanta....reaching it from Oklahoma City was slower than Detroit, London, or Germany....

So, wanting to give Oklahoma City another chance, I checked a site in Dallas....poor Oklahoma City loses again....so, in this case there is a problem from Alertra's Oklahoma City location.
