Greetings:

Before eBay acquired PayPal, PayPal was developing a very poor reputation in terms of being too harsh on merchants.

Google "paypal sucks" to see some of the history.

Has eBay's acquisition of PayPal improved how PayPal treats merchants?

If so, how?

Thank you.

It's made it worse. PayPal and Ebay have a monopoly on finance now. On ebay you can't even mention a competitors payment method. Trying to even say "google checkout" in a description will result in your ad not being placed or being removed if you manage to get it placed.

PayPal isn't and never was a bank yet they conduct themselves as if they were one. PayPal renders decisions on finances that pass through it's organization that they do not have the legal authority to make rulings on.

Now with that said, they're able to get away with it because of their sheer size but be warned if anything is to go arye with your PayPal account, you will more then likely lose without one leg to stand on.

I highly doubt you'll see any PayPal competition coming up down the tracks that's able to get as big as PayPal has without a number of issues:)

Bull crap.. They are far from harsh! Once you reach a payment threshold they review your account give them some solid ID via fax and they will be happy!

Getting a fair bit of refund request's often? Then they hold 10% off your funds to ensure your account has positive funds...

These guys have great merchant rates free bank transfers free to send money...

The only thing I disagree with is the dispute process. It take's to long... And they should not be aloud to make a decision. Especially on Virtual products such as web hosting and dedicated servers...

And there echeck times from the UK is horrible takes 8 - 10 days to clear an echeck from a customer in the UK :( I disabled customers paying with echecks now so that is resolved...

A bunch of kids and fraudsters expecting life to be on the easy street... Welcome to the World Wide Web. You should be thankful Paypal Takes close attention to accounts.

Huge Paypal fan here! Never had any issues. Keep it legit and you'll have no problems.

My only gripe is the inability for clients to use credit card's more then once without requiring an account. Seems like bad practices to force a user into a PP account.

Not sure if that's a misconfig on our part or not. I'm not set to investigate it further for another month or two.

Not sure how it is in CA, I think alertpay is okay for use there... they do CC without account option to could get your clients to checkout there if they can't at pp.
