We have an affiliate program already, but I've been thinking of hiring sales people to work on commission only. Any of you guys doing that? How is it working out for you? I'd appreciate any tips/pointers on setting this up the right way. Thanks!

Anyone worth while thats willing to work 100% commission only is probably already doing it somewhere else making far more than what they would with you.

Just being honest.

With that being said base salary + commision or base salary that goes away after a year etc might work for you.

Problem with base salary employees is they always have a "buffer" however if you make their base salary that they get to keep their job if they hit their sales goals in which the sales goals would pay for them.. then its a great fit.

Sales people are a dime a dozen, don't be afraid to nuke a few due to poor performance.

I wish employees that work in sales are a dime a dozen, for us we are having an issue finding them to work within the office.

No, but still I wouldn't use the word "nuke"

Northern VA/DC is full of them.

My experience is that most of the time you get kids, when working online I mean, and they just get their friends to borrow their parents credit cards for a month.

From there you do get sign-ups, that are either charge backed or canceled on day 2.

Thanks for this post. I a;ways felt that if you cant sell your own service then how could anyone else sell it for you? You pay them a commission for what really? To get clients by "any means necessary?" Come on folks...be creative and think of your own ways to obtain clients!!!

Just a hint...Facebook is pretty cheap and suits any budget. Twitter is free and makes you money! lol. ;)

No offense, at all here, please don't take it the wrong way.

Those are terrible ideas lol...

Facebook is cheap yes, but for crap pages.

Twitter, it's Twitter. It was by far the WORST social networking idea in the world.

Lets make a website, that has absolutely NO way of making money.

Great idea...

Your best bet would be to promote your affiliate program more. I mean if you have an attractive offer and a high conversion rate, you will get more sales than any sales guy could ever get you.

I could see it being worthwhile if you get them to do the local run for you. But even still, I would much rather sit behind my computer for 75% commission instead of running around outside for 100%. That's just me.

I suggest you keep working on your conversion rates, make a semi decent payout, and start emailing every web hosting review site you can find. That will be one way to get your own little sales force who does all your work for you. Just keep in mind, it takes time for these programs to gain momentum...so keep at,

If it was the worst idea, why was is it one of the most popular sites on the Internet?

Because nobody has figured out the joke yet.
