View Full Version : Message board software? Let's make a list!
shibby 11-13-2002, 07:12 PM I thought it would be a good idea for everyone to list any message boards that they know about, like phpBB, Vbulletin, etc. I'm gonna be making a new site soon, so I wanna explore all the possibilies, but I only know of a few. So, let's hear them! :)

Alex042 11-19-2002, 09:27 AM This forum seems to be really biased toward Linux PHP/mySQL. I probably reviewed a dozen or so ASP forums before when I was evaluating forums for a Win account, but I don't see 1/2 of those I reviewed here. If you want a list, check a scripting site such as hotscripts.com and go through their list of discussion boards.
Chicken 11-19-2002, 09:54 AM I'm not sure biased is the word, however you're free to list the ASP ones you know of.
Darth 11-19-2002, 09:59 AM Theres some nice boards out there :)
JeremyV 11-19-2002, 10:31 AM UBB.Threads - www.infopop.com
NxTek 11-19-2002, 11:31 AM You guys are missing the greatest ASP-driven one available. MegaBBS. It's at www.pd9soft.com and has a perfect ranking on Aspin. It's also free. :)
Nobody's heard of this or is using it??
JeremyV 11-19-2002, 11:37 AM ASP is suck :D
If those are the names I see at the bottom of websites, here are my opinions of visits and viewing of some message boards/forums. Sorry, if this isn't really what you were looking for.

ASP is and always will be suck :D
TradeViceroy 11-19-2002, 01:58 PM You have to admit, ASP was Microsoft's answer to PHP. :P PHP was first and in my opinion, the best. :P
NxTek 11-19-2002, 02:23 PM Just like there are OS wars, there are programming language wars. :) Always have been, always will be.. heh.
Was PHP before ASP? Didn't know that.
debug 11-19-2002, 06:02 PM I agree with JeremyV. ASP is slow, Snitz is slow (open connection, etc). Test it in 56kbps.
The best is php BB.
NxTek 11-19-2002, 07:48 PM Access is slow. SQL is not, ASP is not. It takes a bit more processor to run but if it's optimized correctly is as fast if not faster.

ASP was before PHP, if oyu want proof ask. Go over to webmonkeyradio and they have a interview with rasmus lerdorf (I think thats how you spell it?), he talks about how it was created and specificly says asp was before php, real interesting interview talks to the guys from zend too.
