Of all the nerve!

Today, I got an email from a spammer asking me if I could hook him up with hosting! I was like what the... ??

"Oh yeah, sure guy... I'll set you up with hosting... (and then charge you up the wazoo for it).."

Anyone else get emails like this? A spammer asking you to host his spam??

I've also gotten emails from another Spammer asking me to host him so he could spam in my behalf!

I am looking for on ISP that will allow me to mail off of its servers. No proxies, no relaying no bouncing off of others servers, just a direct connection. I would require a box on a high speed line. I belong to a rather distinctive group and if you could provide this I could bring you as much business as you could handle, proving you can handle the heat that spam brings. If you are interested in discussing terms for this potential arragment please hit reply or email me at myemail@mydomain.com (edited for his sake)

Are people getting that stupid? Or do they actually think that I'm that stupid to host such a thing??

If I wanted to spam, I'd do it myself! (but I wont stoop to that low).

that e-mail was probably nothing but spam in itself. perhaps it really wasn't legit (i.e. the e-mail addy isn't real). ;)

Pretty chutzpadik.

Point the guy to your appropriate clauses in your TOS and AUP, and ask if he needs a translation into other languages ;->

I didn't email him back -- nor do I plan on it really. Don't want my company's sales address added to his spam list (even more so than it is now).

The email he used was a yahoo address (at least the FROM field was @yahoo).

The header though, tells a different story. aka he spoofed it.

Originating from a server over atomicservers.com.

Hmmm.... think I'm going to forward it for them to look at.

I hate crap like this, ticks me off.

Its one thing on a public email address that I use on the net -- its another thing when its sent to my business email addresses.

!*#@$ Spammers!

We get the requests regularly and just politely say no, it is agains our policy. We don't allow SPAM on our network.

With all the SPAM I receive, someone must be hosting them and the only way they are going to find out is to ask.

And the ones that actually ask are the stupid ones... LOL

"Hi, I spam for a living, and I was wondering if I could spam on your servers, even though technically its against the law..."

I shot an email over to atomicservers, I'll let them handle it.

Spamming is not against the "law" only the AUP from the bw providers. The disadvantage to not asking first, especially for a dedicated server, is it doesn't take long for the host to figure it out and cut them off. With our company, if you violate the AUP, we don't provide a refund on set up or monthly fees and they are liable for the bw used. It is also very time consuming setting up a server and getting everything ready.

Believe me, there are hosts out there who like spammers. They typically pay well and consume lots of bw. I guess some people think the headaches caused by them are worth the $.

We have had customers sign up and try, but we typically catch them within a day or two. Then it's bye bye time.

Brad- thats true about spamming - good point.

Yeah, not really against the law, but frankly, it can get you in some trouble though, none the less.

I really don't want to be put in that position, especially if they're wanting to plaster my Company's name all over the internet, and ppl start complaining to me, etc.

Ya know?

"Damned if you do... damned if you don't" types of things.

Yes, but it's commendable that he was honest with you. That's not a common trait among those of his stripe.

One thing i have learnt is not to reply to spam.. this just confirms that your email address is in use and opens it up for a ton load of more spam.

Yuck!

Your spammer correspondant is looking for one of those, and no doubt will find one.

I wouldn't go so far as alchiba and call it commendable or honest; it's just a business tactic... instead of bouncing from cheap host to cheap host having every account cancelled within days or weeks, some choose to just pay more money to a host who is willing to take the heat for them for a price.

It's pretty hard for me to call someone who is probably in the business of selling "generic viagra" or sending out "pre-approved" credit card scams "honest," and I doubt that this particular person was acting on behalf of conscience when admitting to being a spammer.

Gee, that looks familiar. He's been sending them out all week.

Hi,

I run an Internet Marketing company in Las Vegas. Yes Spam. I know this is largely an unpopular business, but a very
profitable one, so...

Well, I took the e-mail address out, some hosts here would probably contact him.

LOL

Yup that'd be the one.

Its a semi-spoofed email though -- originated from an atomicserver server -- just put his from/reply email address as yahoo.

I didn't call "it" commendable or honest. Please don't rearrange my words so as to misrepresent my comment.

Lest I be mistaken for one who gives aid and comfort to the enemy, let me try to spell this out:

1. He is a spammer.
2. He admitted to being a spammer.
3. He was being honest (or, if you prefer, truthful) about being a spammer.
4. Being honest (or, if you prefer, truthful) is always commendable.
5. That still doesn't let him off the hook.

Hmm I have a list of a few host that spam themselves so you coudl send him to them. They have to be spam friendly if they do it themselves.

I don't personally know of any laws which specifically state "spam is illegal, period", but there are many anti-spam laws currently on the books in the United States and elsewhere:

Actually I meant that comment to be "tongue in cheek," and I suppose thought that'd be clear to anyone reading it, but now that I read it over I can see that that tone wasn't clear.

I would rather step in a large, steaming dog turd with bare feet, than let a spammer loose on one of my servers. Legal or not, it is dam unsociable.

In my terms I state that any account found spamming will immediately be shut down and charged $500 plus $15 for each email sent and a further $50 for each complaint received. That way if I get one, I can get rid of them and go out and buy a nice new car with the proceeds!
