View Full Version : your thoughts on these hosts?

I'm a webdesigner who provides hosting for my clients through a reseller account.

I've decided to move my own sites to a different hosting account - that way if there are issues with the server (my current host has had DDoS attacks & a few other issues lately) my clients will still be able to contact me, and to reach my site.

I don't need huge resources - most of the sites in question are informational. 5GB storage (which is really more than I need) and some reasonable bandwidth amount would be great.

I haven't found a lot of reviews of the following hosts, but, after looking through their sites, they intrigue me. Do you have any thoughts about these?
ScalaHosting
SharkSpace
DowntownHost
StableHost
Arvixe

Thanks so much for your thoughts!
all best,
Denise

SharkSpace have had good reviews around here although never used them also have herd of DowntownHost & StableHost but not read anything recent about them.

Have you tried Innohosting? When I was with them they were great and they will support all your clients hosting wise so you can work on providing them support on the design side of things.

ezpzhosting.co.uk is also very good and will support your clients too ( take a look in the reselling classifieds, they are doing 6 months for the price of 1 at the moment which is a steal in my eyes ), it is cheap enough at full price!

Both the hosts I talked about above also have WHMCS which you can use to give your web design clients quotes and invoice them and in the next version ( free update ) you will be able to upload their sites to their accounts for them to download in case they loose the original or mess something up.

Remember, search for a companies name on these forums and you will be able to read loads of stuff on them.

Good Luck :)

DowntownHost has a great reputation and they are active on these forums. Simply use the search box :)

Try search on http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php to find reviews that made about them. But you can find more reliable reseller hosting providers on WHT if you read reviews.

Hi everyone,

I have searched for reviews here. But I didn't find too too much about the ones I mentioned.

Oh, and thanks for the recommendations. I'll check into 'em!

Thanks!
Denise

I second that. Great host and great guy who runs the show over there. Good luck! :D

Thanks for the recommendation.

Presently I'm just looking to transfer my own sites (thinking it a good idea to have them on a different server so that if the server with my clients' sites on it ever has issues, they can still reach me via email). So the end user support isn't critical right now.

But so many people say such good things about InnoHosting...I am going to have to take a closer look! Thanks so much.

cheers ~
Denise

Out of all the companies you have provided 'StableHost' is the one I've seen more positive reviews about then negative. The other companies I haven't seen alot of exposure on. Regards of what company you go with please keep us updated on WHT. Best of luck!

Downtownhost holds a pretty solid rep here on WHT and they seem to have good track record. You probably won't go wrong going with them. Best of luck!

I can recommend Arvixe as their satisified user (got a reseller hosting at them), their service is great & support is fantastic. Prices are very affordable aswell.

I had an excellent experience with Innohosting and currently use (and am happy with) a shared account from Downtownhosting. Honestly for reselling purposes, I would choose Innohosting between the two.

This is my first post here. I'll start with a short review of ScalaHosting, as you wanted to know about it. :)
I'm hosted on the 'Mini' Shared Linux Hosting Plan. It satisfies your 5GB of hosting space, with a bandwidth 50GB.
SoftLayer Datacenter, cPanel (Fantastico Installer) and R1Soft Backups. Had no downtime (ServiceUptime, HostUptime, HostTracker and MonitorUs send me a 100% Uptime report monthly). R1Soft backup has a 7-day Click n' restore backup of all your files.
My Joomla sites and WordPress blogs run flawlessly. Their Live Support is available 24/7/365. For Support Tickets, you can expect a reply in an hour. But, there's literally no use of Support Tickets since you have Live Support round the clock. The support is knowledgeable in every aspect.
They transfer your files for free if your previous host uses cPanel. Just give them your old cPanel account, or a link to your complete cPanel backup, and you'll have your files/DBs transferred in less than a minute.
For just $3.95, I'm really impressed with their service.
There are good amount of reviews in WebHostingStuff, check them out.

Select your top 3 then do a Google search. I think HostGator has probably the most stability in terms or server management and service. One thing to note as well are the ips issue to you. Be sure to ask which ip you will recieve so you can check for blacklisting etc.

Googling is a good idea too.
