View Full Version : kudos to rackforce.com
skelley1 11-13-2002, 04:02 AM I just gotta put this down for the record.
Please keep in mind that I only have one server at Rackforce (http://rackforce.com) at the moment.
I installed software that they absolutely told me that they did not guarantee and did not support. I ended up having problems with it for several days. Rackforce spent A LOT of time helping me anyway. I had several techs working on my issue - Todd, Ian, Gerard, and one or two that I didn't get their names. They went way out of their way to help, keeping me apprised at every step and putting up with my rantings and frustrations.
They could have easily just said, "Hey, we told you that we don't support that software at this time." but they didn't. The could have said that they could certainly do it for their advertised $50/hr but they didn't. They saw I was in a tight spot and helped out.
This is not the first time, either. When I asked for some help with disk access speed that came with the default installation, Ian went all out to post in my support tickets exactly what he was doing, why, and what the results were. How many places would do that?
___
I have posted my recommendation several times in forums asking for who they should go with for a dedicated host. I just thought I would take a minute and post exactly why I did and still do. I went with them because I was referred by someone who knows linux boxes very well. I did a lot of searches and saw that they had good support. Then I talked to their sales people, Brian (VP) and their techs. Everyone was helpful.
If you want to go with a very reasonably priced dedicated server and you want top-notch support go to rackforce.com and talk to them.
That's the fact, Jack!
papepo55 11-13-2002, 08:29 AM Rackforce.com looks good about the price and support.
Does anyone have a download file at rackforce.com?
I want to test their network speed.
okihost 11-13-2002, 08:34 AM Nice to see a good review for a change.. How long have you been with them?
cheCCa 11-13-2002, 08:38 AM Nice to hear that. But..on the other side of the note, I am currently having a little dispute with them. If u guys wanna know more abt it..let me know...I am ONE UNHAPPY ex rackforce customer.
seg fault 11-13-2002, 09:13 AM Ahh great news!
skelley1 11-13-2002, 11:16 AM I've been with them for about a month now. I'll be staying for quite a while.

Dang! it was almost too good to be true - (A host without an unhappy customer) :D
Ditto to skelley1 's post - I've received nothing but helpful, patient, and spactacular support from Rackforce. They do go the extra mile to help you out.
johnallen 11-13-2002, 02:04 PM What backbone connections does rackforce use? To which providers?
BiGWill 11-13-2002, 02:53 PM afaik they'r using ShawCable's Network
skelley1 11-13-2002, 08:00 PM Rackforce's Primary upstream provider is Big Pipe (owned by Shaw) with redundant fail-over to Telus's network. Within a few weeks it will have a third upstream with full BGP4 through Navigata which is owned by Sasktel.
skelly, are you on the unmetered T1?

Thanks skelley1.
But the 36KB file is so small that I could not check the server speed.
skelley1 11-14-2002, 03:33 AM Sorry it was a rough morning -> http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=88747

papepo55 11-14-2002, 08:20 PM Thanks skelley1.
Thanks Lmax.
I, too, am more than pleased with Rackforce. I spoke with Kelly Beardmore about a custom server configuration. I received the following.
- 3x80 GB IDE Hard Drives, RAID-5 configuration
- 1 GB RAM
- 1.7 GHz Intel P4
- The "unmetered" T1 connection
- PSA v.2 (upgraded to v.5 for free)
- Nightly backups
(side note, I'm really into Internet security, so I didn't go with their firewall option)
Total?
$225 monthly, per server, $50 setup (one time)
(If you're comfortable with configuration from shell, you'll save some $$$ if you don't have them install Plesk for you)
The server has been online for at least 5 months with about three minutes of downtime total. The support team is great! I get about a 10 minute turnaround time when it comes to sending in a support ticket. They have a superior billing and sales team, who even take it upon themselves to follow up every now and then to make sure you're happy.
They will install RedHat by default, but will install FreeBSD if requested. I believe there is a fee to install *BSD, but it's best to check with a sales rep first.
I highly recommend this company. They were even kind enough to email me a picture of my servers there. Email me if you have any particular questions I may not have addressed here. I'll be more than happy to sing their praises in a personal email. :)

I used to have a rackforce server. It was awesome (ping was a bit lame). But over timed I learned their billing department sucked (don't want to get in on why). Support is awesome though (guy name ian's the bomb).
skelley1 11-14-2002, 11:21 PM From what I understand, they are completely revamping the billing department software and stuff. only issue I've personally had is my receipt comes in canadian dollars instead of USD. Freaked me out the first time I saw the bill.

They didn't notify me of the bill being due (I can't remember jack). Then they wanted to charge me $50 to have the server plugged back in because they couldn't atleast email me.
I was a little confused about the setup fees. For one custom webserver, I believe the setup was about $145.
However you've gotta give a little money to get a quality machine. I'm still very impressed.

12850K .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... 56% @ 352.11 KB/s
12900K .......... .......... .......... .......... .......... 56% @ 250.00 KB/s

dTuesday 11-17-2002, 04:33 AM RackForce's costumer service guy told me that they running with a burstable 1.5Mbps and that I could expect 112Kbps on average.
- D
alapo 11-17-2002, 08:33 AM How can it be burstable and un-metered and average out to 112k (for so cheap)?
