I have been meaning to post my experiences with two dedicated server and co-locating companies for some time now. To be fair and objective, I have started a different thread for each.

Back in July I was looking for a new co-location facility due to the high costs of my then current provider. My server was starting to show its age (Duron 750 mhz with 512 mb RAM) and I wanted to build a new one. However, at that time (and it still applies today) 1u and 2u cases were VERY expensive. It just wasn’t worth the money for my company to spend $200.00+ on a case to get a good deal on 1u or 2u rack space. They were the only company that offered a 4u space for $88.00 (I still can’t find a place that offers 4u spaces that cheap with 150 gigabytes of bandwidth).

I ran across one of the deals placed in the Dedicated Offers forum for their $68.00 per month co-location deal (basically their $88.00 package). At first I was somewhat skeptical because of all the bad feedback about FDC Servers and others who offered sub $80.00 deals. I spent 2 weeks researching Fastservers.Net to make sure they were legit. I found nothing but great reviews and speedy and reliable service using the search function on webhostingtalk.com. They even offered a competitive SLA agreement which I was surprised to find out. I don’t believe my last host offered one.

I decided if things didn’t work out, I’d only lose $68.00. I spoke with Shane, one of theia account representatives and he answered all my questions professionally (with a little humor added in). I signed up and had everything including all the agreements initialed and faxed over. This was in early August when the order was placed. I ordered all my server parts, put the system together, and shipped it off.

Well, I’m sorry to say my server didn’t make it in one piece. Airborne Express banged it up pretty good (even though it was packaged properly and double-boxed). Aaron, one of the technicians at FastServers.Net went out of his way to resolve my problem. He had certified technicians out at the Hurricane Electric facility within 6 hours to diagnose the problem. I was in constant e-mail and phone contact with him the entire time (even up to roughly 10:00 pm CST that very night).

Aaron and I worked together for 3 days to get my server repaired. We had to wait for replacement parts to come, but Aaron made sure everything was ready to go when the new hardware arrived. He was a very patient and understanding man regarding this situation.

After 3 days, the server was repaired and brought on-line. However, there was a slight DNS issue which their technicians fixed immediately. I’ve called them up at midnight (and later) and they have always answered the phone with 3 rings. They even throw in basic server support for free too.

I have had a great experience with them! I just wanted to give everyone my 3 month update on them and to expect my 6 month update in 3 months regarding service and reliability.

Anyhow, I hope this brings to light how some providers keep offering great services, especially at this time where a lot of providers are floundering.

Have a good night!

Did you send them a Mini tower or a Actual 4U case? How much do 4U cases cost?

John:

I sent them a 4u case as they do not accept mini towers. I picked up a brand new one up at an Ebay store for about $70.00. Came with fans, spare parts, etc. :)

They had my machine done this week, 2 days ahead of time. Their support staff are just wonderful people and I have always been able to reach someone within minutes with my problems. So far on a scale 1 to 10, I give them a perfect 10.

Thank you all especially Adam, Drew... for your patience dealing with my dumb questions.

Yours truly,
