I finished my school project (Ababa Control Panel) and need to present it to my computer class! If the teacher need me to explain how it works, I must talk about the 'DAEMON' that I wrote. :o How do you pronounce 'DAEMON'? :)
I don't think you pronounce it same as 'DEMON' :stickout:

According to Dictionary.com [actually Jargon File] it's either: dee'mn OR day'mn. See http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=DAEMON

The words were originally both Latin (demon being ancient Latin and daemon being classical) so they probably were both pronounced the same to begin with.
Fernando J. Corbato actually coined the word in 1963 as it pertains to computers (during project MAC for IBM). The usage was inspired by Maxwell's vision of little daemons pushing atoms around (as a guiding spirit between men and the gods) while he (Maxwell of course) was experimenting with thermodynamics.
at the majority of conferences i've been too it's always been pronounced day-mohn.

Let's call the whole thing off. :)
A little rhyme I learned back when I was a brat:
When two vowels are walking, the first one does the talking. Therefore the letters "ae" make the long "a" sound, so we would say "day-mon".
Mind you that only applies in the US, where we take simple things and make them complicated.

Here's what I found about diphthongs:
Latin has three diphthongs (two vowel sounds pronounced as one syllable), ae3, au, and ei.
ae Pronounced as the y in the English 'sky'.
au Pronounced as the ow in the English 'how'.
ei Pronounced as the ay in the English 'say'.
So maybe it's actually pronounced diemon.
