I am looking for alternatives to Fantastico just for some research I am doing. If you know of any "auto installers" please let me know of them so that I can add them to my list.

Here are the ones I know of:
Fantastico
Installatron
Elefante Installer
cPanel Auto-Installer
Simple Scripts
Softaculous

Thanks in advance everyone!

Softaculous is pretty good, its free right now and it have a nice user review section for your customers to review each program.

Are you going to purchase them all?

I really like Installatron - easy and simple to use. :agree:

Installatron is way better as fantastico if it comes to updates; user friendliness is still (even after the redesign) not really there, it is to cluttered. But has my preference above Fantastico as they seem to make a joke of every customer by updating late and not coming with anything new. (they already tell 2 years that they will come with a new version, but nothing there).

Installatron is brilliant, we've created our own auto-installers for WHMCS - something we couldn't do with Fantastico.

Softaculous looks okay, but the fact that it's free puts me off. It usually means it'll get plastered with ads, turned into paid software or get dropped by its developers.

Alons and team seem committed too Softaculos, they are planning alot for V2, including around 50 more scripts (bringing the total too around 150)

My advice too anyone who is unsure is too go ahead, install it, but still keep your other installer :) What have you got too lose?

P.S Softaculos has a nice API :)

Sharing your thoughts on this; nothing in the world is free; and we are having businesses, no charities or hobby, but we are in the hosting business to earn a living. I find it hard to commit to a piece of software where the other side does not have any legal commitment.

I can understand peoples concern but saying nothing in life is free is wrong, some of the best things in life are free.

Linux?
PHP?
OpenOffice?
Winamp?

Anyway going off topic :D

cPanel Auto-Installer is good options. But I think fantastico would be better.

Right you are; but these are large opensource projects backed by thousands of professionals AND companies, which is a bit different from this project which was first a payed solution and then did go to a free solution. It is just not what most companies want; but might be a great solution for people who just want an auto-installer who have a low or no budget. But yes; we go offtopic ;)

I used Softaculous for some Wordpress installations, did not seem very secure.

My vote is for Softaculos. Best, free and has more scripts than its competitors.

It appears I had used an earlier version of Softaculous . In the current version, the same admin user name and password appear if you are installing it for a number of add on domains.

I remember several threads where someone from softaculous did swear it would be free.

Sad for those who did step into this trap (pictures a horse walking with a carrot in front of his face which he can never reach). Maybe they now reconsider :D Unless of course Softaculous is delivering something they are happy about; it is still cheaper as the other two big ones Fantastico and Installatron.

Or maybe they just did indeed listen to the community as said in the above post; and are trying to build a solid company; however some other lines in the same post bring that down again (we are college students and work on it as much as we can) .... and what if you can't? businesses need continuity.

I think its better than both Fantastico and Installtron, but not many Fantastico or Installtron users are going too switch IMO.

Im just disappointed, I think it had more too gain as a free project.

But if anybody is wondering, I would buy a liscense, but I would probably mutter under my breath "free they said, free for the forseeable future they said" while ordering :D
